Converting a German targeted Fritz!Box Fon Wlan to an International version

Can we see the support info again (18 lines)?

Ich habe FB 7170 SL, Serien-Nr.: V144.266.00.075.409, Artikel-Nr.: 2000 2373
Firmware (deutche Version) 29.04.70.

Is English easier for you or German?
Your Box is already running as a "normal" 7170, not as a 7170 SL - if not, it could not have fw 29.04.70 which is the latest only for a regular 7170 (there are special threads about the subject how to flash fw for one Box to another model). It should be easy to change this to the latest English fw 29.04.67 by first running RECOVER-Exe German 29.04.67 (ftp://ftp.avm.de/fritz.box/fritzbox...ITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7170.04.67.recover-image.exe) and then upload this English fw (ftp://ftp.avm.de/fritz.box/fritzbox...TZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7170.AnnexB.en.29.04.67.image).

After that you will get a white interface because you have to switch the box's "firmware_version" from "avm" to "avme". This you can do by telnet or box's own ftp server.

Open telnet and register:

echo "firmware_version avme" > /proc/sys/urlader/environment
reboot

or on open ftp server write

quote SETENV firmware_version avme

by

Good luck! Any problems (or success): post again

Maybe the box does not accept to upload the English fw BEFORE changing "firmware_version " in the environment. So do it the other way round and do first change to "avme" and then RECOVER with English RECOVER-FW 04.67

Yes, it's indeed :p

I have switched to 29.04.70 from earlier (pre-installed) version (unfortunately I dont know the number :) )

The problem is I couldn't switch to earlier version yesterday. Is it possible? Anyway I'll try it again today.

Yes, you are right. It was a problem but I thougth the same way as You and used english recovery exe file. Now FB works at least for router functionality. I have not yet tested VoIP, but I think it should be straightforward. Thank You for help. It was very fruitful.

By the way, I did it under Windows with exe file. Do You know any method for the same process under Linux (without executable file)?

I'm sorry: I am far more a Linux friend than a Linux expert. But I'm sure there will be someone else in this forum who will be able to answer your question with competence.

7270 on 1&1 to International Firmware

Just did the conversion, piece of cake. Run the AVME targ and then restore with the international firmware, so all is good. It would appear the fritz box functions when addressed by the Dect phone are not overwritten by the flash...eg Telefonbuch, Eintrag ansehen, the menus are still in german, but the voice is in english.
has anyone cracked the 7240 to international firmware issue yet? I will be putting linux on a machine to try lonegunmans tutorial (Italia)

@garson: Apply the fritz_as_annex_b_kernel_args_newer.tar and try again. When the update is done use fritz_as_annex_a_kernel_args_newer.tar again.

Good luck!

You mean I should switch to annex B, use recover image, update with your .33 english firmware and then switch to annex A?

try to update without recovery

Now FB works at least for router functionality. I have not yet tested VoIP, but I think it should be straightforward.

Unfortunatly fixing telephony through FB 7170 is not as easy as I thought.

I have configured FB 7170 as router, and VoIP gateway. Internet over WLAN and VoIP calls are functioning, but I have problem with receiving and making calls through fixed line.

My question is: Is it possible to have both VoIP and fixed line telephony when FB operates as router? If so, how should I connect fixed line and configure FB?

Thanks in advance

@krzysw78: The problem is in the Y-cable. As you used the box before without fixed line you did not notice that. I wrote about that many times - because users with annex A and analog line always have to do the same alterations to the Y cable.

I will be travelling today for 2 weeks now and am in a good hurry. So I can only give you this hint:

The analog signal for the fixed line is transmitted by contacts 3 and 6 in the box's DSL/TEL entrance. The two in the middle are called 4 + 5 and transmit the DSL signal. So all you must do is to connect the two "neighbours" 3+6 of these middle contacts 4 + 5 to the middle contacts of your splitter entrance "TEL" at the wall. Sounds maybe complicated - is in fact very easy if you understand the principle - the rest is just wiring correctly.

Have a nice trip. But maybe anyone else can say if I correct understood.

What I need is cable like this:

rj11.png

Left is fixed line socket and right FB socket.

I have checked that my line is comunicating with phone only with 4 and 5 pins (phone have only these pins in plug)

Am I right?

Is such a cable easy to buy or should I make it by myself?

Thanks everyone who can confirm or not my considerations.

Yes, you're right! Thx for the good wishes . I will shut down my PC now
