If is need more, just let me know.
Anyway, I found in the dos editor a line like that:

CONFIG_ROMSIZE=8

Could this be a limitation of the memory usage? How can this be edited and changed in 16?

Thank you.

If this entry isn't due to your efforts it should relate to the existing hardware. What made you think you got the 16-MB model?

A big mess up on performing the recovery ROM on FB7170

Dear friends...
I have just managed to mess up my Fritz!Box 7170 by performing the recovery when the configuration parameters were not set up correctly. what i mean is that i had somewhat the following parameters althoug i am not absolutely sure:

echo "annex A" > /proc/sys/urlader/environment
echo "kernel_args annex=A" > /proc/sys/urlader/environment
echo "firmware_version aol" > /proc/sys/urlader/environment

Before this problem i had my Fritz!Box 7170 successfully updated to Annex-B to English Version. As English version is always behind German version so i wanted to install the German version to get more features. This time when i used the German recovery image file:

FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7170.04.70.recover-image.exe

and I guess i might have made a mistake in changing the above parameters correctly from Annex B to A. So when i did recovery then it said that its an incompatible version. When i tried to used the English recovery images for both Annex A & B it said the same thing so now the router seemed to be rebooting over and over again and i am unable to do anything to it.
Can somebody kindly help me how i can get the access to the router console again so that i can update the parameters correctly so that i can update it with the correct new recovery firmware.

Your help will be kindly appreciated since i have already had the whole sleepless night i don't know what else i could do :(

ProductID Fritz_Box_7270_16
CONFIG_INSTALL_TYPE=ur8_16MB_xilinx_4eth_2ab_isdn_ nt_te_pots_wlan_usb_host_dect_61056

flashsize=16777216

This are the hardware/configuration selection. In guess that this CONFIG_ROMSIZE=8 is limiting the usage of the memory in order to protect the 1&1 configuration to be changed. As long I can use just 8 MB of memory, is impossible to upload another image.
I am not a linux master but maybe someone can check and confirm/deny my believe.

Thanks.

Can you change CONFIG_ROMSIZE to 16 and try again?

... rebooting over and over again ...
Hi, rikrok321
I remember you - it seems, you didn't improve too much the last months ...

Your biggest error was to set "firmware_version aol" !
Now the english firmware (it needs "firmware_version avme" !) is incompatible with the settings - that's the reason for the reboot loop.

The only way to access a box in reboot loop is via ftp/adam2.
I don't explain how to do this, because you must know it!

Once having ftp access to the box, set "firmware_version avm" and run the recover file ...04.70.recover.exe immediately, without resetting the box.

That's all. After that you should have a working 7170 with german FW 29.04.70.

Can you change CONFIG_ROMSIZE to 16 and try again?

Actually this is my problem. I don't now how to edit this line and to change it. For the moment I now just to do the listing of the parameters in command prompt.
Dose anyone give me a hint in this regard?

Thanks.

A big mess up on performing the recovery ROM on FB7170

Hi, rikrok321
I remember you - it seems, you didn't improve too much the last months ...

Guru el-valiente: thanks for your reply... i have not been on my computer in past couple of weeks so i could not thank you before... firstly i thought perhaps no one was able to help me with my issue so i started to search around the forum and so after digging around I found out how to recover using adam2 which is almost the same method as you described in your reply and then i was able to recover my FritzBox....

Many thanks for your reply anyway... I hope you are enjoying the start of the summer...cheers

Fritz!box 7170 Annex A + Fritz!x ISDN

Hello,
not sure my query should be posted here but it is the only English thread on the Fritz!box I can find. If anyone knows of other English language threads or forums about the Fritz!box I would be gratefule if you could post the links.

I am new to the Fritz!box, bought a month ago via a well known auction site. I am absolutely delighted with what it can do, especially the PBX funtionality & the combining of analogue & VOIP phones .... it was easy to
setup and, so far, has worked flawlessly.

The problem:
I bought a Fritz!x ISDN from a German auction site and connected to the ISDN port on the 7170. I can call the 2 extension POTS phones & also transfer incoming calls from the 7170 to the Fritz!x with no problem using
**51 or **52. I cannot do this in reverse ..... that is I cannot call extensions attached to the 7170 from the Fritz!x. Has anybody got a similar configuration? if so, what do you dial (**??) on the Fritz!x to call an extension (Fon 1-3) on the 7170?

Apologies if this is the wrong thread to post this & would be happy to be re-directed.

Thanks to opensoft for starting this thread ...... it's really helpful finding an English thread as I don't speak German.

Regards all

I probably shouldn't reply to my own questions but AVM support came up with an answer as follows:
"The solution is to use the prefix *# which prevents the Fritz!X of itself interpreting the following keypad codes. So, in other words, in order to call the FON2 of the FRITZ!Box from a phone connected to the FRITZ!X, dial *#**2."
so
Fon1 = *#**1
Fon2 = *#**2
Fon3 = *#**3

I bought a Fritz!box Fon WLAN 7050 annex B, flashed and tweaked it to (english) firmware 14.04.26 Annex A. However, I seem to have a problem with the Traffic Shaping (stressing the bandwidth seems to have a negative impact on the telephone calls).

Now I noticed the German FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7050 Firmware Version 14.04.33 update, which mentions "Traffic Shaping optimiert" in the changelog.

I have been hesitant to update my Fritz!box beyond the current firmware because A) the firmware is in English and B) Flashing higher versions makes it very difficult to go back to previous versions.

I've also read about telefonicus having done a quick English translation of the firmware, and I'm also aware of the existence of Freetz (which should be compatible with 14.04.33). However I don't see the point in flashing Freetz as I can't seem to grasp the added features it provides. But would it be possible to get the 14.04.33 firmware, and mod it to English? I couldn't find any mod or thread about telefonicus' work?

I'm sorry that I'm troubling you. I know this is not time and place but you are my only hope to make my Fritz box fon wlan 7170 work. I dont know german language and my posts on this forum are disabled and I dont know how to unblock it only private message works. I have read all the english post and I cant find answer on my problem.
What I try to do is convert "FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7170.AnnexB.en.29.04.67.im age" installed on my Fritz to "FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7170.AnnexA.en.04.67.image " because my internet line is not synchronized. Applying this according Adam2 method I got this error:
"quote SETENV annex,A
501 Syntax error: Invalid number of parameters
quote SETENV HWRevision,66
501 Syntax error: Invalid number of parameters
quote SETENV ProductID,Fritz_Box_WLAN
501 Syntax error: Invalid number of parameters
quote SETENV firmware_version,avme
501 Syntax error: Invalid number of parameters
quote SETENV firmware_info,08.04.67
501 Syntax error: Invalid number of parameters"

When I put in command line this
"quote SETENV firmware_version avme" or
"quote SETENV firmware_info 08.04.67"
command is sucessful, but other are wrong for ex.
"quote SETENV annex A"
501 environment variable not set"
is unsucessful.
Thanks to this i cant install "FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7170.AnnexA.en.04.67.recov er-image" because of software is incompatibile.

For any help I will be appreciate. Thank you and best wishes, you are most helpful person on this forum.
Here is my answer:

You have german FW 29.04.70 Annex B installed.
You want to change to english FW 58.04.67 Annex A.

The commands you wrote in FTP have correct syntax, in principle, but for the newer versions of FTP you must substitute "comma" by "blank space".
But not all the commands you wrote are necessary.
And a big mistake is that HWRevision 66 / 67 and FW 08.04.xx are for FBF WLAN, not for FBF WLAN 7170.
You must be careful when typing FTP commands!

Enter ftp/adam2 and type the following commands:
quote SETENV annex A
quote SETENV HWRevision 127
quote SETENV firmware_version avme
quote SETENV kernel_args annex=A
quit

With "quit" you leave ftp. Now execute immediately the recover file (from the AVM server) FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7170.AnnexA.en.04.67.recover-image.exe

"immediately" means, without resetting the box, even if the recover asks for reset.

After that, your FB7170 should be english version 58.04.67 Annex A.

Good luck
.

FB 7170 (29.04.59) german to english

Dear Fritzbox experts,

I would like to modify my black FB 7170 (29.04.59) german to english 29.04.67 firmware only (Hungary is also annexB). I have changed its fw version to avme in 2 ways: either in ftp (quote SETENV firmware_version avme) or by "fritz_as_avme_newer.tar", but after when I execute the "FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7170.AnnexB.en.04.67.recover-image.exe" the program can not connect to fritzbox no matter however mutch time I'm waiting for it. After this if I want to connect to the box I have to set it to "avm" again.

Can anybody help me how to make it?

FTP:

quote SETENV firmware_version avme
quote SETENV firmware_info 29.04.67 (maybe it's called "en.29.04.67" or even "AnnexB.en.29.04.67" or just "B.en.29.04.67" - must try out)

bye

After that IMMEDIATE RECOVER with 29.04.67 en-RECOVER-image (DO NOT ALLOW ANY REBOOT)

FTP:

quote SETENV firmware_version avme
quote SETENV firmware_info 29.04.67 (maybe it's called "en.29.04.67" or even "AnnexB.en.29.04.67" or just "B.en.29.04.67" - must try out)

bye

After that IMMEDIATE RECOVER with 29.04.67 en-RECOVER-image (DO NOT ALLOW ANY REBOOT)

Thank you for your reply, but Recovery can not find Fritzbox neither in this way. Just "Searching FRITZ!box Fon Wlan 7170 at: 192.168.178.1" repeating for anytime. I left it for an hour for searching without success. It's very starange, because my other older FB7170 updated to english without problem.

Did ALL preparation steps for RECOVER (www.router-faq.de/index.php?id=fb&fb=recover)
completely and correctly? Which OS do you use? According to many experiences XP produces less errors in RECOVER. Try more than one time - its of no use to wait one hour - you better try several times in one hour.

Successful convert! but very interesting how:
In ftp I have set avme, and fw: 29.04.67 (the box accepted both settings) , quit, I didn't reboot (without switch the power on-off) executed REcovery en.29.04.67 BUT could NOT connected to the box for many trials. I had an idea: I try to Recovery with the older version en.29.04.57 and succeed! notwithstanding that it was an older version that the original on the box 29.04.59. (this means that was a downgrade).
Another interesting thing is that recovery found that FW on the box was 29.04.59 notwithstanding that I have modified successfully to 29.04.67 (verified with: quote GETENV firmware_info).
