Converting a German targeted Fritz!Box Fon Wlan to an International version

7270 english firmware conversion

Just off topic, I have noticed that the international 7270 has firmware version 54.04.67 and the Duetsch version has firmware 54.04.70. In the 7170 the annexe A and B firmware versions are totally different numbering. does anyone know whether the conversion is as straight forward as uploading the international firmware? thanks

Several threads here are treating this - I myself wrote more than once clear instructions on that and practiced it myself on a 7170.

So? Shall i send my 3270 back to the reseller or there's some hope to let it work with annex A?
thanks
LjS

@ ljsilver71:

What "dsl information" do you get in "internet" - green or red line or what? Green would confirm the "feeling" and would mean that probably something is wrong with VPI-VCI or the encapsulation (mode or your personal data registered). Can you read all these data out of the modem provided by your dsl provider?

Just looked into this some more thoroughly. There is certainly NO "straight forward" conversion from German Annex B to English Annex A (I understand this is your idea?).

ALL Annex B-Firmware (English or German) have major number 29.... -ALL Annex-A-Firmware start with 58....

Don't have any idea if there ia a REAL HARDWAREdifference between the 7170-original-A and the 7170-original-B boxes. My feeling would be: No - there is none.

If you have no fear and want to find out if the latest English -FW for A (58.04.67) works on an original Annex B (29.....) I could give you some detalled advice.

Anyway the result would not be so uncertain if you change from a German 29.04.67-B-fw first to an English 29.04.67-B-fw and then make the box's modem work with Annex A (uploading a ...newer.tar from TELEFONICUS). The question here is if the English 04.67-B also disposes of a dsl file for the use of the modem with annex a - the German 04.67 does have it - but the 04.67 German for the 7270 does NOT include this file (thus it must be added by modification through FREETZ procedure - see my signature)

the light i get is green and non flashing, on POWER led,the DSL led is off, according to documentation that means the dsl is aligned but not connected; As parameters I'm using the same VPI/VCI and encapsulation (and obviously login/pwd) I'm using on this router that is connected and takes 2 seconds to connect (a sucking d-link). as further test i've left the fritz connected to line for about 20 mins without results.

Before all: i do not know the 3270 but have quite a lot of knowledge about annex and firmware problems and conversions.

My question did not refer to the light on the outside of the box but to the interface information under "internet > dsl information > .."
If you use the same parameters as your D-Link and even so the box does not syncronize dsl I can only suppose that the firmware of the 3270 does NOT dispose of a dsl-driver file for annex a - as is the case also in the latest firmwares for the "German" 7270.

Maybe someone else can give an answer on the annex-a file question???

or may be send me an austrian or switzerland firmware...I think that one has the annex a driver....at least I suppose........
thanks again for your patience imagomundi and others.

agreed, but 7270 firmwares are:
International 54.04.67 , Build 09.01.28 Language : English, Italian, Spanish, Annex: A and B

German: annexe A
Version: 54.04.70 Datum: 25.02.2009

so the version numbers in both instance start with the 54

@waynester59: So, what's your question or plan??? My answer referred only to your "straight forward question with regard to 7170.

@ljsilver71: bad luck: the only firmware for 3270 is the German one - no other available. Could you answer my question regarding dsl information in the interface?

Any more information if you click "weitere Informationen" or the underligned "DSL"?

kernel_args annex=A

This means under normal conditions that the modem of your box is working on Annex A - provided that there is file to work with annex A and DSL is synchronized.

I still suppose that there is no such file in fw 04.68 as it is not either in the 7270's fw 04.67 and higher.

Three suggestions:

1. Open a new thread asking "somebody running a 3270 with annex A?"
2. Try to run the box with a fw lower than 04.63 - maybe 3270 is treated similarly to 7270 by avm and such fw contains an annex A file. Look at avm's ftp server if there is one available
3. Sell your 3270 and buy a 7270 - even if you don't need the telephony things this one will run under annex A and even with english, spanish or italian language menu

@waynester59: So, what's your question or plan??? My answer referred only to your "straight forward question with regard to 7170.

I have already managed the 7170 conversion, and am now looking into buying a german 7270. I was wondering if the conversion is as simple as the 7170?
thanks

Absolutely nothing

ok, thanks a lot, will follow your advices, but i'm still in time to send back the 3270 to the reseller and ask a change in a 7270....think I will do this.

thanks again

What you mean "it's even easier"?

In my case, I bought an 1&1 branded 7270 on eBay. I'm using Google Translate to configure it and it works like a charm.
Now, I'd like to flash it with the International firmware available on AVM website, mainly to have an English speaking answering machine as I don't use the modem (Annex A or B is not a problem).

Can I flash my Fritz!Box 7270 with this untouched firmware?
Thanks!

YOUR BOX MUST HAVE 16 MB MEMORY - the 8 MB version is not capable to accept the international firmware. Provided your box has fw 54.04.67 (if lower, flash this one first) download from AVM server RECOVER-exe 54.04.67 International

Open box's ftp server, command:

quote SETENV firmware_version avme

bye

After that DO NOT REBOOT the box or disconnect from power (even if recover procedure asks you to do so) and run IMMEDIATELY RECOVER.exe 54.04.67 International without any interruption

What' easier with that method? I only make a pseudoupdate for AVME, run the recovery software and make another pseudoupdate for annex A. OK, one step more but no need to ftp.

BTW, does your recovery directly convert to annex A?

ps
How do I know how many megabytes I got?

I have seen on "the evil well known international market place" a Fritzbox 7240 with 7270 international firmware on it, does anyone know how to do this.
I managed to flash my 7240 with 7270 firmware by changing the productID, HWRevision, firware_version, firware_info . But it didnt boot, it just kept cycling.
From the forum the 7240 has the same processor and 16mb , just not the SO port,
any help would be appreciated.
I am enjoying currently using the german interface. but am struggling with the answerphone
Danke
Wayne
