Converting a German targeted Fritz!Box Fon Wlan to an International version

I can't see what's wrong with that ...
Nothing! We completely agree.
Converting the boxes to 06.04.24 rsp. 08.04.26 was ok. The problem is exclusively the fw version xx.04.49, which loops in ATA mode.
.

Of course we all know that up to kernel 2.4 changes between Annex and languages were rather easy. So I only said that the mess "started" there - but the real error was to update to 04.49 (I expressed that with the word THIS)- thus changing the bootloader and the kernel 2.6.

Found in Italy at http://www.vocesuip.com/nuovo_firmware_fritz_box_fon_060449-t8266.30.html

#download busybox via wget:
..
wget -qO /var/tmp/busybox http://ftp.the-construct.com/files/${KERNEL_VERSION}/busybox
..
# make it executable
chmod +x /var/tmp/busybox
..
# set busybox var
BUSYBOX="/var/tmp/busybox"
..
# start telnet deamon with password of web gui
${BUSYBOX} telnetd -l /sbin/ar7login

This appears to be taken out of a pseudoimage tarfile created by The Construct, let me call it telnet_pseudo_update.image.

Use it like a firmware update via the user interface (once it's running again). Ignore warnings and error messages, just continue and then click on RESTART.

Good luck!
Teloni

Edit: As a Fritz!Box owner you may legally create this and other pseudoimages by and for yourself at The Construct.

@aster_dox

Have you been able to recover to xx.04.49 or are your Fritzboxes still looping?

.

Hi people,
great news! Telnet worked and downgrade also!
Boxes are back to Kernel 2.4, where the bug is not present. (so everything works as expected!)

Thanks everybody for the great help!

Congratulations! You did a good job!

Question: Do you have the FBF classic (no WLAN) with firmware 06.04.24 working in ATA-mode (as a router, via the LAN port)?
My experience: All my trials with this FB in ATA mode failed - no matter which FW version I used.

Hi,

Can some one point to clear instructions of how to turn my box to English interface. I have read this thread but I am no clearer.

I have a Fritzbox 7170 Annex B Edition F - its a black box.

I don't need to change the annex because I have a cable router but English menus would be good.

So I just need a clear full instructions of how to do it. I have seen the ftp way which seems quite straight forward apart from when it says
'You will have to use Gupload for the English recover ' What is Gupload I thought you just double click on the the recover file!! Is that correct.

Thanks

Good question. Where did you read that? I am always actively helping in firmware, language and annex changes and could help you, too. But I never read what you mentioned.

Actually it was you in page 28

Connect box via LAN 1 to your PC - do NOT connect box yet to power. Write into your PC's "execute" window "ftp.192.168.178.1" (but NOT ENTER yet) - now connect box to power -disregard flashing of ALL LEDs but when "power" LED starts to flash ALONE for the first time press "ENTER". Now you get a "black window" where you will be asked for a user name. Type "adam2" and ENTER this. You will now be asked for a password. Type again "adam2" (this time you will not receive echo) and ENTER this.

Now you will see "ftp"

Type there "quote SETENV firmware-version avme" and press ENTER

Box will give you back "command successful"

leave ftp server typing "bye" and press ENTER

The box will now "believe" that it is an English "speaking" box.

DO NOT REBOOT the box!!

Now you will have to Gupload the before described RECOVER image ENGLISH 04.56. Make yourself familiar with the recover procedure. You find several threads about this in this forum. I prefer not to extend too much this answer.

If you feel you might have problems with the recovery procedure comment it here and I would give you some information

But looking at it now I think it was a spelling mistake!!:D:D

I think I will try the ftp way but I think this

Type there "quote SETENV firmware-version avme" needs to be firmware_version avme - is that correct?

So after that do I just click on the recover image and let run.

Thanks

Nigel

Thanksfor the hints - just corrected both (writing) errors. Recover procedure requires some more preparation of your PC (will find it onm AVM page also in English: have to give your LAN card a fixed IP between 192.168.178.3 and ......19 - find this under "local red" - properties - TCP/IP4- There you will also find "erweitert" (in English might say only "more" and there you have to tick "acitivate NETBIOS over TCP/IP"). Strongly also recommend to deactivate "mediasensing" in the Windows registry of your PC. Otherwise you recovery will ask if program should shut down and reinetiate your PC and if you say "yes" the whole procedure will fail. I never tried to say "NO" - sI don't know what happens in this case - you could give it a try - nothing bad can happen erxcept that recovery will perhaps not succeed.

(will find it onm AVM page also in English:

Any idea where this is in the avm site - I can't find it.

Thanks

So do simply what I wrote in ( ): "give your LAN card a fixed IP between 192.168.178.3 and ......19 - find this under "local red" - properties - TCP/IP4- there you will also find "erweitert" (in English might say "more" and there you have to tick "acitivate NETBIOS over TCP/IP". After that give it a click on your recovery-exe. Do connect only your PC and FRITZ.

thinking of buying a 7240 or 7270 from ebay germany

Hi, I was thinking of buying one of these models from germany, is it true that all fritzbox' can be used with an ethernet cable connected to a cable modem?
also has anyone converted these annex B to Annex A? Has anyone seen the english firmware for these/
thanks from a newbie

First part of your question: Generally it is true - only exception I know are some of the very first 7170 version 1. Second part: THOUSANDS have done the annex changes - some of the biggest threads in this forum are treating this subject - use the search function first. For users getting their internet through a cable provider it is not even necessary to change annex. For others the normal cables of the boxes have to be adapted to English sockets. For some boxes it is also possible to change the firmware language or firmware version to English. My recommendation for you would be a 7170 version 2 - can by this in the forum's "Flohmarkt" for app. 60.- ¤.

many thanks for the speedy reply, I am quite taken with the dect of the 7240 / 7270 fritz's. Plus of course the N spec wifi. When you say the sockets will require converting to the UK sockets, are they not the regular american stlye RJ11? Also I have looked on the manual and it is not too informative re sip configuration, will the 7170 handle multiple sip accounts from different providers as the 7270 does?
cheers

Yes, all FRITZ boxes handle up to 10 SIP accounts.
As to socket and contacts: If you want to use FRITZ only for internet telephony (and not connect also the landline = PSTN) only using it behind a cable modem you can in fact use a simple cable with RJ11 on both sides connecting the modem to FRITZ' LAN port 1.

:groesste: many thanks for your help, they seem to be a very nice bit of kit, I use VOIP on a netgear 615V, utilising both anologue ports and an additional ATA in the routers ethernet port, requiring three phones connected! I am hoping the 7270 will allow me to connect only one dect phone and receive and make calls on any of the lines with different sip registrars.
many thanks and sorry for being a pain
