Converting a German targeted Fritz!Box Fon Wlan to an International version

Good news, certainly !
And I have had that WiFi working ...
That's fine! I am happy.
Now you need no help anymore. Make some experiments to find out what your mistake was and than you will have your network as you wanted it.

One more comment: Your problem with the WLAN/WiFi seems to have to do with the WLAN card of your laptop. I (and imagomundi, too) suggest to check its configuration. Are all parameters (TCP/IP etc.) correct?

The pleasure was rather short-lived !
I have checked the TCP/IP and DNS values of my laptop.
They were first set on automatic for the LAN and WLAN connections. LAN is OK, WLAN remains mute.
Checking with Barricade status, I find that the IP-Address (with the LAN connection) is 192.168.2.74
I have then tried with following values (I copy your text)
IP-Adresse = 192.168.2.74
Subnetzmaske = 255.255.255.0
Standard-Gateway = 192.168.2.1
Primärer DNS-Server = 192.168.2.1
Sekundärer DNS-Server = none, empty
I then tried to use the IP-Address of the FB (192.168.2.69) keeping Standard Gateway and Primary DNS.
Still no result ...
Could I reset the laptop to its default values and start again?

@olnejean

Perhaps you need the help of a friend who knows a little more about network?
It is difficult to help you, based only on the feedback you give me.

Set the laptop's TCP/IP to "automatic". Don't change the IPs, use the values I gave you.

I suppose the problem is the WLAN encryption. Your FB uses WPA encryption as factory setting. Naturally, you must tell your laptop the ecryption code. Did you? If not, this is probably the reason why you have no WLAN.
There are two solutions:
1. Type in the WLAN encryption into the laptop. You find the encryption code at the bottom of your 3270.
2. Configurate your FB (only temporarily!) as "no encryption". Then your laptop can connect to the FB without encryption code.
Later you should go back to WPA encryption for safety.
.

I think there is a misunderstanding.
The laptop has automatic access to WLAN when I turn it on (I have given the WAP code long ago).
But WLAN – or whatever its name – has no access to Internet.
It worked perfectly yesterday evening for about half an hour, I made trials all around the house, connecting the laptop with more or less success depending on the number of walls between the FB and the room where I was making the trial.
And then it disappeared "de repente" !
When I check with the Barricade Status, I can see the laptop's TCP/IP code when it is connected by LAN, but I cannot see it while connected by WLAN.

I think there is a misunderstanding. WLAN worked perfectly yesterday evening for about half an hour ... and then it disappeared "de repente" !
Ok, olnejean, that was a clear description.

Now I guess I can explain the "strange behavior" of your WLAN!
I am now almost sure that you have both network-modi activated at your laptop: LAN and WLAN! And you tried to use both options at the same laptop! This is forbidden! You must use only one of them at the same PC, either LAN or WLAN!

Could it be that WLAN worked while you were going around the house, because you had the LAN cable disconnected? And when you came back close to the FB, you connected the LAN cable to the laptop and WLAN disappeared?
This would happen if you have both modi activated.

If you want to use WLAN correctly, you have to inactivate LAN first!
Do that by entering the "network-window" at your laptop (the same you used for the TCP/IP settings), click on the LAN-icon and than click on "inactivate". Afterwards the WLAN should work perfectly!

Let me know if I'm right ...

Comment: Don't misunderstand me: You can simultaneously use WLAN and LAN with many PCs connected to the FB, but every PC must be connected uniquely via one of the two options!
The state of the art is:
- Inactivate WLAN at every PC connected via LAN to the FB.
- Inactivate LAN at every PC connected via WLAN to the FB.
.

I have checked and inactivated the LAN connection which now shows "inactivated, shared"
When I check the WLAN icon, it show "reading the network address".

1. I have checked and inactivated the LAN connection which now shows "inactivated, shared"
2. When I check the WLAN icon, it show "reading the network address".
Ok, olnejean, once more:

1. LAN "inactivated" is ok; "shared" I don't know, but it's not important, I guess

2. WLAN "reading the network adress" means, WLAN can't connect - that's bad
What TCP/IP setting do you have for WLAN connection?
In principle it should be settled to "automatic", than the FB should assign one of the IPs out of the Barricade's IP pool to the laptop (192.168.2.70 to 192.168.2.79)

Here we have located the problem! With our "sophisticated" configuration, the DHCP-server of the FB is inactivated, therefore the FB can't assign any IP automatically!!!
You must manually assign an IP to every PC connected to the FB !

Enter the WLAN icon at the laptop and type in the following values for TCP/IP:
IP-Adresse (IP address) = 192.168.2.31
Subnetzmaske (subnet mask) = 255.255.255.0
Standard-Gateway (standard gateway) = 192.168.2.1
Primärer DNS-Server (primary DNS server) = 192.168.2.1
Sekundärer DNS-Server (secondary DNS server) = ---.---.---.---

Understand that you must type in manually such values for every PC connected to the FB, no matter if connected via LAN or via WLAN.

Understand further that you may assign any arbitrary IP address (the first line in TCP/IP) to every PC connected to the FB, but it must be different for each PC !

Understand further that the trunk "192.168.2" is fixed by the Barricade, which is the boss! You can select only the last three digits.

I suggest the IPs 192.168.2.31, 192.168.2.32, 192.168.2.33, 192.168.2.34 ...
.

I have checked and inactivated the LAN connection which now shows "inactivated, shared"
Ok, olnejean, let us analyse a little more, to better understand the situation.

Now I know what "shared" means: I suppose you had selected "automatic IP" in the LAN TCP/IP protocol at your laptop. With this setting, if the laptop is connected via LAN to the FB, it shares the IP assigned to the FB, in this case 192.168.2.69.
That's the reason why the comment "inactivated, shared" appears.

If you try to connect the Laptop via WLAN settled to "automatic IP", I'm not sure if it is able to correctly share the IP assigned to the FB.

But the most important reason why you must manually assign IPs to the PCs connected to the FB is: With "automatic IP" only one PC can be connected to the FB, because the IP can be "shared" with one single PC only.

I am optimistic that the network will work well with the instructions about manual IP assignment I gave you.
.

There are three PCs connected to the FB, two of them are presently "sleeping". The third is working (my only access to internet ...).
All three have been working perfectly on the FB with the automatic settings. Should I change them?
The laptop has now your settings. It shows that it is connected to FRITZ!Box WLAN 3270. But it still has no access to Internet.
Side question: the DreamBox, which I do not personally control, is still showing "ip=192.168.2.4", an "old" number of the Barricade range. Could this interfere?

There are three PCs connected to the FB, two of them are presently "sleeping" ...
What do you mean by "two PCs are sleeping"???

All three have been working perfectly on the FB with the automatic settings. Should I change them?
Yeah! You should manually give them the IPs I told you.

The laptop has now your settings. It shows that it is connected to FRITZ!Box WLAN 3270. But it still has no access to Internet.
How can that be? If the laptop has Internet access via LAN-FB, it must equally have Internet access via WLAN-FB !

The DreamBox ... is still showing "ip=192.168.2.4", an "old" number of the Barricade range. Could this interfere?
No, this is ok and will not interfere. Remember that any IP will work, as long as it has the trunk "192.168.2".
"192.168.2.4" is as good as "192.168.2.37" or "192.168.2.213" (the range allowed extends from 192.168.2.3 to 192.168.2.253).
.

"two PCs are sleeping" ... they were switched off, but I have activated them to modify the TCP/IP setting.
All three PCs now have your settings.
"If the laptop has Internet access via LAN-FB, it must equally have Internet access via WLAN-FB"
¡Ombre¡ That's the great mystery I have been fighting against for days (with your help ...)

All three PCs now have your settings.
And what? Do they all have access to Internet? Do they have any problem?

¡Hombre¡ That's the great mystery I have been fighting against for days (with your help ...)
Give me more information! How shell I help you without information?
You said, the laptop connects to the FB. What exactly is working? Can you access and change all the options of the FB's menue?
You said, the laptop does not connect to Internet. What is the problem? Any message on the screen? Send me a screenshot! I need information!
.

Maybe it would be helpful to post the following three screenshots of FB Wlan:

- Wlan Monitor
- Funkeinstellungen
- Sicherheit

just to make sure that it is not an FB-WLan problem but one of the network settings

"All three PCs now have your settings." They have access to Internet, and, as far as I can see, they are working perfectly.
What exactly is working? Can you access and change all the options of the FB's menu?
No, apparently, I have lost contact with fritz.box or http://192.168.178.1/. It does not answer any more.
Message (in French) Waiting time over.
So I could not get the three screenshots
- Wlan Monitor
- Funkeinstellungen
- Sicherheit

The laptop does not connect to Internet: message (in French) Server unobtainable.

"All three PCs now have your settings." They have access to Internet, and, as far as I can see, they are working perfectly.
That's fine. No problems!

No, apparently, I have lost contact with fritz.box or http://192.168.178.1/. It does not answer any more.
Dear olnejean, what are you doing????
Remember: Your FB has no longer the IP "192.168.178.1" !!!
Yourself changed it to 192.168.2.69!!! Do you remember???

Now: Access the FB typing "192.168.2.69" into the browser.
And than send us the three screenshots.
I'm waiting ...
.

Connect your FB through Lan cable to your laptop and type into the browser: 169.254.1.1. This is a default IP of your FB that never changes and will always give you access to the box. This way you can do the screenshots.

I have done the three screenshots using http://192.168.2.69 out of my LAN connected normal PC, not with the laptop

Please try if you have access to the FB via "192.168.2.69" at the laptop using WLAN, too.

Effectively, your WLAN configuration is not perfect. Do the following:
- Enter the submenue "Funkeinstellungen" at the FB
- In "Funkkanal", select "Kanal 3", not "Auto"
- Inactivate "Für 300 Mbit/s optimierte Funkkanäle nutzen"
- In "Modus", select "802.11b+g"
- Inactivate "AVM Stick & Surf aktivieren"
- Click at "Übernehmen"

Presently, your WLAN is configurated to work according to protocol 802.11n at 300 Mb/s.
I'm sure that your notebook does not understand this new protocol, but it understands 802.11g at 54 Mb/s.
The new configuration is optimized to work at 802.11g, that means, with your laptop.
Try it!
.

Looks all as "no problem". On page 60 of the 3270 I found this information that seems to me very interesting with regard to olnejean's problem:

@imagomundi:
That's a good suggestion. But the problem occures only if using WPA2.
As far as I see, olnejeans laptop does probably not support WPA2, but WPA. Therefore it seems not necessary to install the patch.
If in doubt, olnejean can try if there is WLAN connection with the encryption inactivated. If that is the case, he should install the patch.
