Changed development box and my 7270 now has no DSL

I just did a test with my "german" 7270v2 and "converted" it to an international version.

The "7270_v2_05.23-freetz-devel.en_20130308-182255.image" (Rev 10236) works fine with my Annex-B DSL.
So it seems to be an "Annex A" problem, I can't investigate further with my DSL...

Just to make sure, there should( ;-)) be no difference in our resulting firmwares.
The "international" firmware includes both the B and A Firmware. And as far as I understud you can't even remove the Annex B firmware, for the B-firmware is the only "full" firmware and the A-firmware is derived as a "patch" of the B firmware.

Okay...
I recently flashed an older AVM-model that has a special firmware for Annex-A

Is it an idea to do it the other way around?
You give me a 7270v3 firmware that works as it should on Annex-B and I flash it on a working AnnexA?

I still don't feel at ease with my development box and if your version is broken on my ADSL-router we can rule out my development box and we can fully blame "Freetz"

I am not sure, if a "v3-FW" will work on my "v2-Box".
But I will try, I might do an recover if it goes bad ;-)

OK... forgot that....

Well, let's hope that M66B has some new data....

Can you make a V3-image with your development box?

I just did a new test and ran dmesg and lsmod
I also noticed that the /proc/avalance environment was gone.....

Sorry, no luck. I had to remove DECT and telephony to get the box starting, but it won't sync on DSL (Annex B). But this was not unexpected for the hardware between v2 and v3 is quite different.
I even thought I bricked DSL with the v3 FW, for it took a hard reset and some minutes in repeated "trainings" with v2 before DSL came back to life...

@frater
Okay. That's the bad case? Where is the good one?

Regards
Oliver

The "good case" is either the Fritz firmware it downloaded on my Linux system or a Freetz firmware I made last year on my other machine....

The problem with the "old Freetz" is that it will revert to factory settings afterwards...
The problem with the AVM-version is that it does not have access to the shell......

This router is one of the 4 gateways to the Internet for a multiLAN / multiWAN pfsense. This weekend I'm not on the premises there, but I can of course do a lot using a remote connection.....

I think I will first try and get access to the shell by starting the telnet server on the AVM. I did this before without using a telephone... Will this be enough? I assume I can do an lsmod and dmesg on a plain AVM-box?

Isn't the missing userspace /proc/avalaunch a clue?
Is it missing on the working AnnexB of MaxMunster?
Did you notice I removed the complete trunk and did only an SVN-checkout and modelchange?

Now I a have a production environment with a working Zabbix / sudo

This is the output of dmesg, lsmod and ps
You can see the userspace /proc/avalanche is there as well

Somehow I wasn't able to enable telnet on a standard AVM using the quickdial trick. I successfully did it before in the past...
I do hope I don't have to do some more tests as the device is going to factory default after installing the Freetz firmware of 1 year old.
I will now install the AVM-firmware that my Linux development box downloaded to create a freetz version.....

So, is there anything "missing" or "wrong" in the /etc/init.d/ folder?!?
Could you please do another "make" for the "bad" firmware (only if you did some changes afterwards) and then do

Code:
for X in $(ls build/original/filesystem/etc/init.d/*dsl*) ; do diff -u $X ${X/original/modified}; done

I can't find any reference to dsl_ur8 in the bad case too. So that is the point to start searching.

Regards
Oliver

Code:
freetz@freetz:~/trunk$ for X in $(ls build/original/filesystem/etc/init.d/*dsl*) ; do diff -u $X ${X/original/modified}; done
diff: build/original/filesystem/etc/init.d/e40-dsl: No such file or directory
diff: build/modified/filesystem/etc/init.d/e40-dsl: No such file or directory

if I do this after creating a 7390
Code:
freetz@freetz:~/trunk$ for X in $(ls build/original/filesystem/etc/init.d/*dsl*) ; do diff -u $X ${X/original/modified}; done
freetz@freetz:~/trunk$

Thats o.k., same here (e40-dsl is a link and not valid in build folder).
If you test the resulting firmware from above (no changes in /etc/init.d), are there still no entries about dsl in dmesg?!? For it looks quite different on my v2 box, no matte if I start Annex A or Annex B...

What about "sh -x /etc/init.d/E40-dsl" with the bad firmware?

Regards
Oliver

I have not yet switched to the bad firmware, but on the good one that file does NOT exist.
Code:
root@fritz:/var/mod/root# ls -al /etc/init.d/E*
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 Nov 29 2011 /etc/init.d/E05-basemodules
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 800 Nov 29 2011 /etc/init.d/E15-device
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3253 Nov 29 2011 /etc/init.d/E46-net
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 246 Nov 29 2011 /etc/init.d/E47-voip

I would like to have your reaction on that before I make that switch.
The switch is rather an inconvenience for many others using that Internet connection.

Is it maybe an idea to give me a recent 7270-v3 image of your development system so we can once and for all make clear it's a problem with my development box rather than a problem with the current trunk?

When I came in at work this morning, the first thing I did after turning the heat up, was to upload 1 of the 2 firmwares I got from you....
The MaxMuster one was the first.....

I really wanted to know if it worked or not...
It worked!!!

This means I don't really have to try the firmware of olistudent (it will probably work as well) and there's something wrong with my development system.

The strange part of course is that I can't notice anything strange about the images it makes for my 7390's and that it always gives similare results.
I also threw away the complete trunk and did nothing but change the model.

I could do that again and see what it does now....

I suspect it's somehow incapable of extracting/injecting crucial parts of the DSL-system.
How do we go from here?

Shall I rename ~/trunk and do another svn checkout and build a new plain jane 7270v3?
I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS - 64bit and AFAIK I have all the packages installed...

Starting in a new, empty directory with a new, minimal configuration, is one of the first steps if you have a problem like this. If that works, you can add the options you want.

You can keep the files in the dl directory. It is useful to make dl a symlink to a location that is not deleted when you remove the other files.

it is something I did when I started to troubleshoot

we can now safely assume there's something wrong with my development box. it may of course be possible that a fresh svn-checkout goes wrong if it's done on your box.
could you do a fresh checkout and send that image to me?

it should be exactly the same, wouldn't it?

if you get a proper image after a fresh checkout then it's definitely my Linux box
