first of all sorry for writing in english, i don't know enough german to write this post in german. i'm learning german but I'm only at the second level course and it is very difficult for me to try to follow your valuable help & guidelines to mod my router.
i have an 1und1 (AVM) 7050 router that comes from germany and i want to use it in Spain. During four months, I've been trying to understand your exposed ways to make it run in Spain. Sometimes i've used google translation and sometimes a book dictionary. After spending lots of hours & days trying to figure out which is the exact process to be success on my goal i've decide to ask for help is possible in english because this is a dangerous process that could end bad if something is misunderstood by me. hope you understand it.
This is what I know until now:
My router is an 1und1 (AVM) FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7050 wih firmware Version 14.04.33. Annex B German
As fas as i know i have to convert it to to Annex A to be able to use it with the analog lines of Spain.
I also would like to have an english version of the firmware to be easier for me for setting it up.
The only english Annex A version i've found in avm web site is FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7050 (Annex A) Firmware Version 14.04.26
There is a trick from Haveaniceday in the first post of this threed that would make me be able to convert annex B German firmware to Annex A english firmware
The problem with these Haveaniceday trick & files is that it doesn't work with firmware XX.04.3X firmwares or higher, and as the mine is 14.04.33, then this trick should not work with my router firmware version.
in page 53 of this threed Telefonicus has released some files that should do the job on firmwares higher than XX.04.3X as the mine it is.
have I understood well until now?
if so, which are the Telefonicus files and in which order I should use to make my annex B german router to work as an Annex A English router. I would like to know which are the required steps & order.
this is what i've understood until now about the Telefonicus method, correct me if i'm wrong please:
Unbrand it with fritz_as_avm_newer.tar
switch it to Annex A using fritz_as_annex_a_kernel_args_newer.tar
load the english Annex A firmware version 14.04.26 from the AVM web site
i guess all these files have to be installed using the firmware-update / firmware Datei page in the router, right?
is this procedure right or wrong? i wouldn't like to kill my router.
please guys, i know that i'm a pain in the ass with my written in english demand but i don't want to brick my router to convert it to a paper weight.
i would ask to you if it would be possible that you be so kind to explain to me in english if i understood well the procedures and if not, to correct me giving to me the concrete and required steps to successfully convert my german annex B router to a english Annex A router. I've tried to do my best trying to follow your helpfull guidelines in german and also in italian following an outside link to an italian forum & i can't do more than what i've done & understood until now.
Hope you understand it and try to help me with my goal and don't be too much angry with me for not writing it in deutsch and for asking what have already been explained in german here. if not you can just ignore my demand.
Please try to be concret with the required steps. thanks in advance. Vielen Dank für Ihre Unterstützung
I believe your understanding is correct and your 4-step procedure sound about right to me.
But you might want to wait a little longer in the hope that someone else replies, who actually did convert his box that way.
this procedure can't work. Downgrade from 14.04.30 or higher to a lower version isn't possible without greater complication.
If you really would want to load the original english Annex A 14.04.26 firmware, you should:
Downgrade to something lower than 14.04.30 (not that easy, you will need a flash copy of mtd2).
Change to Annex A and english.
Load english Annex A firmware 14.04.26 via recover exe.
I am not sure, but AFAIR there could be an english translation of the new firmware in freetz. Maybe someone else can tell more about that. I am not at all up to date in that topic.
i appreciate a lot that you try to help me, you are very kind. hope that someone will join us here to try to clarify a bit more the exact steps to be succes on my goal. Danke schön guys.
Switching to Annex A will work, but you won't be able to load the english firmware into the box. The english firmwares have their own branding, which is "avme" (e for "english" I guess).
It's not that easy to go from german .33 to english .26 because the firmware layout changed from .26 to .33. If you search for "avme" or perhaps "avme AND 7050" you will find several posts about that problem, for example this one.
Im not up to date concerning this topic, so I can't help you very much. But I just wanted to warn you that it's not that easy.
Thx DM41, at least i would be able to use it in Spain. Of course i would prefer also to have an english version of the firmware, in such a manner it would be easier for me to set it up. For example i have troubles trying to find a way to habilitate remote WEB management, i found a link here http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showthread.php?t=66244 (Remote Management bei der FBF) explaining it in Deutsch but i can't successflly follow the procedure. I need this Remote web management feature to be able to configure and manage my girlfriend Fritzbox 7113 router from Barcelona when something needs to be configured.
Meine freundin ist german, sie wohnt im Berlin und ich wohne im Barcelona. We are a long distance couple that have to communicate using the Voip features from the FritzBoxes to make more easy and comfortable our relation. She has no skills about computing, but i have them so I'm the one that manages her router and VOIP features each time i'm in Berlin but when i'm in BCN, she has to wait until i go to Berlin again before being able to set up again the VOIP config options if something has to be changed. She has tried to help me translating the router german pages and this forum german pages from german to english, but it is no easy because she has no computing knowledge. I thought that if i would be able to convert my 7050 from german Annex B to english Annex A, then it would be easier for me to set up my router and find the way to habilitate the remote web management of her router in Berlin and also it would be easier for me to understand all the router settings and then in such a manner I would be able to set her router remotely each time that some setting in the Voip features and other router features aswell have to be changed. As you can see this a a long story mixed up with some emotional details.
Well, until now it seems that at least i will be able to use my 7050 router in Spain in german. If someone join us here in this threed trying to give me a bit more information in how to convert it to english then today will be a great day.
After that i will have to see how can i use those strange phone related german wires & conections the router has, to be able to connect it to the spanish phone wires and connections standards. But that will be another story, the next one. Yes, i know it seems the never ending story.
BTW thx to everybody for the help received here. i appreciate it a lot.
Hallo,
Habe meine 7270 von 1&1 mit der Methode von 'The-Construct' entbrandet.
Hat alles soweit hingehauen.
Doch jetzt steht über den Menüs Speed!Box statt Fritz!Box.
Kann ich das irgendwie wieder rückgängig machen?
@fourcc: It's good you explain in #1212 the whole background. From this I understand that you got several problems:
1. Your 7050 is FW 04.33 and "speaks" German . you want to get the box speaking English to make configuration process easier for you
2. Your girlfriends Box is a ......(also 7050, also FW 04.33?)
3. Your REAL problem is that you have to manage/reconfigure/make whatsoever changes on your friends FRITZ
Supposing that my understandig is correct and complete -and your friends FRITZ is also a 7050 with FW 04.33:
1. As you know from the other answers the latest ENGLISH firmware for 7050 is 04.26. From FW 04.30 AVM changed the (Linux)kernel of the FRITZ' firmware from LinuxKernel Version 2.4 to 2.6 which provides a lot more of possibilities for FW features but changes the distribution of the inner archives. There is a rather complicated way to downgrade a FRITZ from a version higher than 04.30 to one lower than this.
Even if you would succeed with this procedure it would not help you too much if your friends Box remains with a FW 04.30 or higher because the interface is considerably different to the lower ones.
2. So I can only recommend both boxes in Berlin and in Spain remain 04.33 and you try hard to cope with the German interface.
3. IF (only in case!) your box is not AVM you would have to change first interface to AVM. this can be done with "fritz_as_avm_newer.tar" and after that you change to Annex A using "fritz_as_annex_a_kernel_args_newer.tar" just as you already understood.
4. After this you will have to manage the ATM donfiguration data problem. For this you should have a look into the Thread "Fritz Box Fon in Spanien". There you will find some special TELEFONICA data to register on your FRITZ - difficult enough buth managable.
5. Finally you will find yourself with the same cable problem that all ANNEX-A users elsewhere have to find a solution for: The ADSL-cable is easy: You simply take the normal Spanish telephone cable with small jacks on both sides (called RJ11). You put one side into the splitters (Filtro in Spanish) "modem" connection and the other side into the FRITZ "DSL" connection (don't worry: the FRITZ is much wider than the RJ11 but it works anyway because the contacts are correct).
If everything is ok up to here you should be able to use Internet and make VoIP calls
Another story is the use of the traditional telephone line. I leave this aside at this point. This requires changes of contacts in the other (the black one) cable to make FRITZ 7050 work with analog telephone lines that use RJ-11 connectors.
5. As to your last - but far not least- problem to remote manage your friends FRITZ in Berlin I would recommend you to read first (even if it is in German) th THREAD I opened for this subject titled "FB remote konfigurieren". There you will find a rather simple solution for this using "TightVNC" which in fact is a program for remote management of PCs but can also be used by means of the PCs on both sides to remote manage the connected FRITZ.
Don't lose faith! Even the longest way starts with the first step!
Hi,
I did, but I already had converted to 08.04.26 Annex A English before. I don't know why you can't convert from 08.04.34 to English. If you want to go back to 08.04.26 you must first overwrite the bootloader (mtd2) with the old version and then recover. Google for downgrade 08.04.26
