many posts in several threads describing (even in English) the various methods to make a 7170-Annex-B-box work in Annex-A. Use the search function and start reading this thread - for instance #1216.
Very good memory
What I have done on NY is changed AnnexB from German to English localization...I am thinking now to change ISP, which I heard uses Annex A standard.
What was interesting from haveaniceday post that AnnexB works OK on POTS. I was reading about difference from AnnexA-B and I am little bit confused. http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showpost.php?p=544724&postcount=3
So, just in case if I need to convert my 7170 (bought in Germany) I posted this question. I also seen that imagomundi does not suggested to change Annexes and he offered to explain how to get AnnexB box working with DSL-A.
I will start with suggested post #1216.
Thanks.
I tried this the other day and it says that my HW is AnnexB (I already converted to English before) and after it could not accept international AnnexA FW...
FTP-ed and setenv all variables as explained...and it could not be done: Log in to the box via FTP/adam2 and type:
quote SETENV annex A [enter]
quote SETENV HWRevision 127 [enter]
quote SETENV firmware_version avme [enter]
quote SETENV kernel_args annex=A [enter]
quit [enter]
I had AnnexB.en.29.04.78 and wanted to move to AnnexA.en.04.78 with recover image tool, and it complained that I have AnnexB HW and can not be done.
What did you do (or: what happened) after "quit"? Did the box reboot? Did your PC automatically shut down and restart?
Give it a try also without "quote SETENV kernel_args annex =A". At this stage this is not necessary - shouldn't be an obstacle either, but just skip this and if necessary it can be done later.
"el_valiente" is completely right: Annex b boxes wil never work on (analog) POTS. But: if a box (no matter which box - which firmware) runs on Annex A or on Annex B depends ONLY on the DSL driver. So virtually you can run any B firmware in Annex A environment if you manage to "implant" a suitable dsl driver for annex A into that B firmware. I have tried this out with several boxes and several (B) firmwares (I owe the forum a thread on this matter!) and got it confirmed in each case. You need FREETZ installed and follow [POST=1444893]these instructions[/POST] (in German only) which I updated just a few hours.
Besides this method that gives excellent sync results you can always try first the simple method to upload [POST=971638]"fritz_as_annex_a_kernel_args_newer.tar"[/POST] (just as it is - do not unpack) from "TELEFONICUS just like any firmware. Disregard any error message. If you are lucky and don't have bad (dsl) line quality this would generally work. I referred to this in my former answer.

No, neither box, neither PC rebooted.
When I left FTP, I run recovery tool and it asked me to plug-out Fritz and after that it asked me to plug it in...then it found device connected to 192.168.178.1 and started verification of FW (HW, whatever) and said that
FW does not match the box.
However as said before around NY I replaced German AnnexB FW with International AnnexB and PC rebooted...
Difference from that time and this time, was that I manualy disabled DHCPMediaSense in registry (without later rebooting PC).

This is a great tutorial and is easy to understand.
Unfortunately, when I go to the Fritz!Box Web interface to update the firmware, I do not see an option to choose a file for the update. The interface automatically downloads and updates to the German version. My Fritz!Box is Fon WLAN 7270.
Is there a way to access the ability to install a firmware from a downloaded image file or can the firmware update be installed from the command line?
I want to update my AnnexB Fritzbox 7113 to Annex-A....
I've downloaded the "FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7113.AnnexA.de-en-es-it-fr.90.04.82.image" but it won't update from my annex-B version. It says it's not compatible!!
I think I need a "7113.AnnexA-recover-image.exe" to make the change from annex-b to annex-A.
It's not that easy! The best way to completely upload an english annex-A-fw to your box is using "ruKernelTool". There area few other methods too -but ruKernel is the less difficult method.
I've installed "rukernal" and setup everything correctly.
I've got the new Annex A 7113 firmware. Everything works fine but after pressing "OK" and plugging the 7113 into the mains it tries to connect for a few seconds then it won't upload the new kernel unto the 7113.
For a variety of named reasons:
1- Kernel große 5MB but only 2MB available!!!
2- Turn off firewall and anti-virus
3- Turn off "msconfig"!!!
yes I did everything, it communicates fine and does the "überprüfung" without any problems. It's only after the last stage when I plug it back in and it breaks up....
I just remembered I haven't given the software admin rights, I'll try that now....
No joy, it still doesn't work..."Kernel Übertragung Gescheitert..." very strange....
I've done it!! I switched to my eeepc with xp and it worked!! I was using a vista pc...
thanks for the help...I have to run some checks to see if it's ok and then it'll be on holiday with me next week
Yet another proof that only XP guarantees success in many methods! There are many reports in other threads, too, that VISTA -and worse even Win7, here especially the 64-bit version- cause many problems!!
Entschuldigung für mein schlechtes Deutsch. Ich bin ein anderer Student von Google Translate. Ich hatte am besten auf Englisch weiter ...
I have been reading through several threads on here but can't see the exact information I need.
I am about to purchase an Annex B version of Fritz!Box Fon Wireless 7390, and am wanting confirmation that I can install the International Firmware version on it, and use it on an ADSL2+ DSL exchange in Australia. Has anyone done this conversion successfully on a 7390, so it runs Annex A and has English web gui? The current wikipedia entry for Fritz!box makes some comments around the 7390 which sounds doubtful that this conversion is even possible due to hardware? Plus, I hear concerns about the file structure on the 7390 being different which concerns me. I am fairly comfortable with Linux/Unix, so hoping it won't be too difficult for me, but can't find the correct guide I need to follow. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
My next concern is around physical connections - the DSL port in standard Australian modems is RJ11, but looks like Fritz!box uses RJ45 in this pic . I understand there is a Y-Cable that comes in the box, but not sure how I can use this as presume it's all RJ45. I may need another converter cable from somewhere else, or just plug RJ11 directly into the RJ45. What have others in other EU countries (fellow RJ11 land) done to fix this?
My thanks in advance for any support on this - I hope I can help other English speakers on here and elsewhere, as the Fritz!box takes off internationally.
