Converting a German targeted Fritz!Box Fon Wlan to an International version

Fb7170

Dear Imagomundi,

Done it all as per your "direction" but without vail.:heul:
Whenever I do it according what you said (done it over 20 times) the led of Power/DSL only once stopped and continue blinking.

Furthermore it seems that it now stays in _info "en.29.04.67"

can I not upload an image or put it back to AVM?
Or something else (i.e. flash it)!!!!!!

Fb7170

The answer: en.29.04.67

The reason I stated this is due to the fact that in those >20 times tryings it seemed that it automatically returned (without the "en") to previous name 29.04.67, except avme stayed!

that it automatically returned (without the "en") to previous name 29.04.67

The reason therefore is normally that you did not RECOVER without allowing the box to reboot. Somehow the box made/makes a reboot (and thus returnis to its previous settings) BEFORE you start RECOVER with en.04.67-RECOVER-EXE.

Suggest the following: You downloaded and stored on your PC the correct RECOVER-EXE?

FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7170.AnnexB.en.04.67.recover-image.exe

If so, download also this recover-exe:

fritz.box_fon_5140.04.37.recover-image.exe This will be needed for what I called the "stony" way.

Prepare RECOVER as usual (fixed IP 192.168.178.6 for your PCs LAN card). Start RECOVER with "fritz.box_fon_5140.04.37.recover-image.exe" (no fear, won't do any harm to your box) Where you get the answer ""incompatible with this Box" press "Abbrechen".

Now go to "start - run " and type into that window "ftp 192.168.178.1" + ENTER

Your box's ftp servers window will open on this. Type there

adam 2 (user name) adam2 (password)

quote SETENV firmware_info en.29.04.67

and just to make sure again:

quote SETENV firmware_version avme

On both commands you should get back "command successful"

Leave that window open, DO NOT REBOOT OR TAKE THE BOX OFF POWER and start RECOVERY again - this time using

"FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7170.AnnexB.en.04.67.recover-image.exe"

DO NOT POWER OFF THE BOX -even if recover procedure is asking you to do so!!

The problem is created by the conflict between the "firmware_version = avme" and the "firmware_info = 29.04.67" - this latter one being the GERMAN B-Firmware.

Dear imagomundi,

Where can I get the file; "fritz.box_fon_5140.04.37.recover-image.exe" furthermore is it important that the DNS server address got a string?

I'll try first thing in the morning.

Vielen dank and I hope it will work! and that I've not killed the box.

Where can I get the file; "fritz.box_fon_5140.04.37.recover-image.exe"

From the same avm ftp server where you got the english RECOVERY file (hope you really got it and don't mix up recovery-exe and image-exe!! I have some doubts)

and that I've not killed the box.

This for sure: the box is not dead!

Looks ok - even if I cannot open your link because avm's ftp server seems to be down. Let's continue tomorrow after 1 p.m (here it is 6,5 hrs. earlier than in Leiden).

@Taido: Here you can find a very good instruction how to recover. Just to store and remind any time you need it. If you try the "stony" way on XP you should also deactivate "mediasensing" manually just to avoid a restart of your PC during Recovery.

Abschalten von MediaSense in der Windows-Registry:
(start-run)
1. Starte den Registrierungseditor (=regedit)
2. Gehe zum folgenden Registrierungsunterschlüssel:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Tcpip\Parameters
3. Setze den Registrierungseintrag
"DisableDHCPMediaSense"
Typ: REG_DWORD (Boolescher Wert)
von "Wert: 0" auf
"Wert: 1"

In ftp you might either try to "quote SETENV firmware_version avm" and "quote SETENV firmware_info 29.04.70" and then recover with the German 29.04.70-RECOVER-exe

or try again to go to English

"quote SETENV firmware_version avme"

and

"quote SETENV firmware_info 29.04.67"

and give it one more try with the ENGLISH Recover.

Do also try not to leave ftp window open, but close it with "bye" as last command and then start RECOVER procedure without any interruption

Dear Imagomundi :groesste:

Ich habe es Geschäft, es ist den Problem von Vista Ultimate. Ich hatte mit den XP ohne "stony way" gemacht.

Aber jetzt wollte ich kein Fehler mehr machen :blonk:, was ist den folgender Schritt?

Do I need to connect to my provider and ....or???

Do I need to connect to my provider ....

Yes, that's it! Hope you will succeed to connect as you did already once before. Good luck! Let us know the final result. Box is working now on German 29.04.70 or English 29.04.67? German 29.04.70 offers more features anyway.

Fb7170

Imagomundi at this moment the English version but when you say the German version is a bit better than I need to convert it back, so how will I do that? And do I need to set it back to Annex A or...
furthermore now when checking the DSL overview I see no connection between Fb and DSL exchange!:-Ö

@Taido: It should work with the same settings your box had when you wrote in #1115: But today I succeeded in connecting to the provider, it was after all my connection settings It was not required to use benutzername etc.

To go back to German 29.04.70 through ftp commands:

quote SETENV firmware_version avm

and

quote SETENV firmware_info 29.04.70

and then the immediate recover with 04.67-recover-exe (GERMAN)

There should be no need to touch Annex again, it should survive and remain on "A" -in fact it's not the "ANNEX" itself (this NEVER changes and will always stay at "B") but the modem function ("kernel_args"). All means to "change" the "Annex" at present only change the "kernel_args", nothing to do with the Annex itself.

Dear Imagomundi,

First of all many thanks for your telcon help. I've sucesfully changed it back to the German version, but....

I cannot get DSL connected

Whatever I've tried no avail!

I am astonished as I thought all is back as to before (#1115). I then saved the settings in a xps file, but cannot upload it and cannot see the content of the file!

Hmmmmm odd:blonk:

I just discoverd (with XP) that the box is AnnexB again, I guess I can start all over again!

Dear all I am totally astonished BUT its working :rosen: , I swapped to English and then back to German and voila now I am connected to the World Wide Web :-Ömany thanks for all your support!!!!!!!!!

No solution needed - because there is no problem. The box will always remain "Annex=B" - this is of no importance as long as it says "kernel_args annex = A" (kernel_args changes the modem function - Annex will always stay unchanged - a box "born" as "Annex=B" will always say "B" and an "Annex=A" born will always say "A".

Your problem must be in the provider / user / ATM settings - you'd better written them down instead of making a file (which might be corrupt or not working for some other reason). You will have to revise thoroughly the internet settings page of your box - if you feel it might help post a screenshot from that page here.
