Converting a German targeted Fritz!Box Fon Wlan to an International version

Yeah the router that is orginally 1&1 brand (Black colour) is V1 & the non-1&1 is V2
I never had a FB7170 V1, so I have no experience.
I suppose the problem is the bootloader. It is version 1.124 in the 1&1 box and version 1.153 in the avm box.
Try to replace the bootloader by running a recover file - the oldest you can find (29.04.33 or so). Check with http://192.168.178.1/html/support.html if bootloader 1.124 has been replaced by bootloader 1.153. If not, try a newer version of recover file.

There are some posts in this forum reporting that early versions of the 7170 V1 do not work in modus "Internet via LAN1" - the modus you need. I hope, your FB7170 is not from that series.

I am not so clear about this step  How can i upgrade the bootloader and where can i find the bootloader file/image?
I have already preformed on my FB 7170 (1&1) the recovery procedure quite a few times with the latest imagine but it doesnt work.
My German is not so great and would you be kind enough to point me on any other threads where i could get more help with this particular FB 7170 V1 issue. Becuase i have got the feeling that my FB 7170 (1&1) is in fact the V1

You can't upgrade the bootloader easily. There is no bootloader image.
The procedure to directly change the bootloader is rather sophisticated and dangerous. I don't recommend it to you.
Some versions of recover files replace the bootloader, too. You should find such a version and do just the "normal recovery".

Looking for FB 7170 Recovery Image file with a latest Bootloader upgrade

Hi all dear friends...

I have got a Fritz!Box 7170 (1&1). I am unable to use LAN1 connection on it since it is a V1 router. Can somebody tell me where can i find a recovery image file where it can also upgrade the boatoader.

Current in my router has bootloaderVersion 1.124 . I have been advised to look for a FB 7170 recovery image file that could possibly upgrade the Bootloader higher than 1.124

Hi rikrok321!

Exactly for those problems this thread has been createt! ;)
Please ask your question there, including your email address. :-Ö

Hi, rikrok
I sent you a recovery file via e-mail. I'm not sure if it works, but try it ...

Do you still have the FB7140? We had planned to write a comprehensive english manual "how to convert a FB7140 into a FB7170", remember?
If the problems with your FB7170 V1 persist, we should go on with that project ...

I tried to send you a recovery image file, but my e-mail server is unable to contact the e-mail address you gave: rikrok(at)post(dot)com
What's the matter?

AFAIK the bootloader's version number isn't that relevant. What counts is the bootloader settings. Some settings, e.g. HWRevision, are hard to change or override since they are stored along with the bootloader code in flash block mtd2. Of course the recover-image.exe programs can be fooled do that but it's quite a bit tricky.

Sorry, what was the reason for your query for another bootloader?

@telefonicus:
It was my suggestion to replace the bootloader. I'm not sure if it helps.
The problem: rikrok sees a reduced menu at his FB7170 V1, originally 1&1 brand ("Expertenmodus" is settled).
rikrok has a fibre optic LAN. Apparently he needs "Internet access via LAN1", as known from running the FB behind another router.
You may find more details about rikrok's problem in [post=1186254]this post[/post] and the following ones

@rikrok:
Presently I have another idea. You should check the serial number of your FB7170 V1. It is known that early versions of the FB7170 V1 (serial number <= 229.00.004.641 ?) are unable to work at the "Internet access via LAN1" modus.

Project: Converting a FB7140 to FB7170

@ Guru el_valiente:
I have certainly not forgotten what i promised you earlier...Next week i am away from Sweden on a business trip so i shall not have any time to followup anything. I do still have FB7140. For some unknow reason i have really gone obsessed with these Fritz!Box routers. I do have a FB7140 and a couple of FB7170 too. Just got them so i can pass them on my my family which is all over. However i have not had a chance to convert my FB7140 to FB7170 yet. I dont think German menus are so difficult since i am using the translater and i can get the idea of German Menues. So after next week i might be able to spend a little more time to be involved in the project i promised you. ;)

... my serial number seems to look earlier one ... its: U022 228.00.018.221
The official info from AVM, dated from june 2006, is:
. Internet via LAN is not possible in devices with serial number
. between ****.228.00.000.001 and ****.228.00.187.671
. between ****.229.00.000.001 and ****.229.00.004.641
AVM also informed, that the options related to this topic do not appear at the menu.

1. The serial number of your FB7170 V1 falls into the "forbidden" range.
2. Your FB7170 V1 shows the symptoms advised by AVM (some menu options not visible)
Thus the reason why it doesn't work seems to be the wrong hardware.

Solution: Replace this FB7170 V1 with a newer one or with the FB7140 converted into FB7170.
.

And how can I do this please?
I understood that you have many of them?
The V1 works perfectly if connected to DSL, the problem only occurs if the V1 is connected via LAN1. Thus, perhaps you can change the black one by the red one?

Changing country code in the German firmware?

I am located in Hungary and I have a question that hopefully is not too difficult to answer for you guys.

I bought a 1&1-branded 7170 from eBay for a friend of mine and I am trying to set it up. Is there a way to set it to Hungary (as in the "Regional options" of the English firmware) without changing the firmware to English? This option is not there under "Telefonie". If there is, how do I go about it?

Thanks in advance: janoka

I have a FB7170 V1 with serial number 228.00.038.929, which is within the "forbidden" range. But I still can see the "LAN1" full option. However I could not test whether it works or not. When I connected it behind another 7170, even I did not set "LAN1", the PC connected to the second 7170 could still access to the internet. Furthermore, I could not access the web interface of the second 7170 via 192.168.178.1 unless I disconnect the first box in advance.

If you connect a FB via LAN1 without adapting the configuration (i.e. still at the configuration for DSL), effectively you can access the Internet. But this access is via the first router (in your case the first 7170). Your second 7170 is simply "not present" - it has absolutely no function, it only transfers the signal. That's also the reason, why you can't access the web interface of the second 7170.

Thus, if you want to test "Internet via LAN" with your 7170 serial number 228.00.038.929, you must first enter the web interface and configure the 7170 as "Internet via LAN 1".
