I didn't happen again to have such memory consumption again. I backed up another computer (37G) and it did not cause any reboot, there was though a single connection broken. But then again with the first computer I had the Fritz reboot during rsync of 5 files, but it happend of first file with size ~870MB. But then I upgraded Cygwin to the latest version, as it is on the second one, and then everthing went smoothly. So maybe it is a bug in client... I'll have an eye on it.
Another observation is that there are rsync processes hanging if connection is broken, eg. with Ctrl-C.
