Converting a German targeted Fritz!Box Fon Wlan to an International version

@kamil8887:
There is no english firm for the 7141! That makes your goal difficult.
As you wrote me via PN, your idea is to install an english firm from the 7170.
This is possible in principle. The easiest way is to use speed-to-fritz (sp2fr) by Jpascher.

The first step is to become familiar with sp2fr.
You will find the instructions here: http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showthread.php?t=172137
.

@kamil8887:

We can't help you with this link, because it is against the rules of this forum.
We agreed to not distribute any modified firm ready to use. Sorry.
The only recommendation I can give you: Try it at your own risk, if you like.

Please, delete the link in your post to avoid problems with the mods.

Good luck!

@el_valiente

I was trying to delete the link and... I deleted accidentally all post
because my geramn is only fragmentary.
Than's for remind me about the rules

But helps still needed!

Thanks Your wonderful advices I have converted my German-language FRITZBOX 7170 Annex B into English-language version. (I wanted to have router to split my cable-modem signal). Now I was forced to move to another place and I have another problem. I need DSL modem version A. So I have following questions:
1. How to convert FRITZBOX 7170 from Annex B to Annex A?
2. Should I choose German or English version (Is that any difference?)
3. Does Annex A version has also option for use as a router for cable-modem?(Maybe only English version ?)
4. How difficult is switch back from Annex A to B if I will need such operation?

Thanks in advance for answers to my problems

Hello, It's a first time i write on this forum. I'm using German fritzbox 7170 with English software 58.04.76 (annex B to annex A by soft). Off course dsl modem in my fritz doesn't synchronize. I looked for the answer on google, but i didn't find anything interesting. Only on one Italian forum I found some information how to build a new filter module (some resistors and capacitors) - they took some parts from other DSL modem annex A and solder them to fritz. But there is no information if it help to synchronize on a poor dsl annex A lines.

Please maybe someone have some information about it ?

What does this mean?

You installed a 58.04.76, Annex A firmware too or you changed only the branding to avme?

Happy computing!

all parameters set to Annex A , but i think that i have very poor adsl line from my provider (2 km from dslam). I checked my fritz on other line (~1km from dslam same provider ) and everything works fine

Hi all!
I'm new on Fritz!Box and I have bought a 7170 model Annex B that I want to switch to Annex A and to english version.

This thread is too big and unfortunately I don't understand english very much, i'm using google translator to write this.

So, what really I need to switch my fritz box? Will be enough to install firmware Annex A from here on my Annex B router?

Thank you very much.

@bratmat

Please attach your screenshots by using the IPPF-system-function and delete the links to this external picture hoster, thanks ;-)

Hi all!

It has been a while since I did mine, but you will have change the box to AVME from AVM here otherwise it will not accept the new firmware. Also when it is done you will have to use the software scripts from haveaniceday to change to Annexe A, these are found here hope this helps

Big thanks waynester59, but i forgot to say that a user emailed and helped me.
My frtizbox 7170 are already converted to annex A :)

Concerning convert to annex A. My curent soft is annex b english version: 29.04.67

When I tried to upload patched image 29.04.01, I got information:
"The firmware update failed:

The selected file contains a firmware version which is older than the one already in use. "

Any ideas how to fix it?

And one more question: Does Annex A software also have sudch options as Annex B:

-- Use one Internet connection for all computers (router)

-- Use FRITZ!Box as a DSL modem

The selected file contains a firmware version which is older than the one already in use
This message is self explaining. It always comes, if the FW version you are trying to load is older then the FW presently in use at the box.

Why do you want such an old FW as 29.04.01 ???
If you really want it, use the recover.exe, not the image file.
For AnnexA, I recommend FW 58.04.76.de (avm) or 58.04.76.en (avme)

And one more question: Does Annex A software also have sudch options ...
Yes, AnnexA FW has these options, too.

I dont really care about exact version but i cant load version 58.04.76.en instead of my Annex B soft. Do You know the method to do this?

Do You know the method to do this?
Yes, I do.
You should, too! It is not your first question in this forum.
Haven't you seen the search function in this forum?

-------------------- any way, once more the "how to" ------------------

In short, for 58.04.76.en (AnnexA, english) follow these steps, carefully:

Download recover.exe for FW 58.04.76.annexa.en from avm's FTP server.

Log in to the box via FTP/adam2 and type:
quote SETENV annex A [enter]
quote SETENV HWRevision 127 [enter]
quote SETENV firmware_version avme [enter]
quote SETENV kernel_args annex=A [enter]
quit [enter]

Don't reboot the box after having left FTP via quit!
Inmediately start recover.exe for FW 58.04.76.annexa.en !

That's all - the FB7170 should be AnnexA in english now.
In case of any trouble: see the forum.
.

Well, I try to explain how to login through FTP.

1. Give your PC a fixed IP-Adress (192.168.178.2)
2. Open a command prompt window (in Windows press WIN+R and type 'cmd')
3. Type 'ftp 192.168.178.1' - but do NOT press ENTER!
4. Unplug Fritzbox (power off), then plug in again
5. After ~5 seconds or so press ENTER
6. You should be connected, user/pass is adam2/adam2

If it doesn't work, try again and again and again and again ....

Sometimes it can help to open ftp first by simply typing 'ftp' and then initiate the connection by typing 'open 192.168.178.1', followed by ENTER as soon as you unplug/plug in the Box. If connection fails, simply press ↑ (open 192.168.178.1 will reappear) and ENTER quickly, after 2 or 3 attempts you should be in.

At this point it should be said that you could of course use Skyteddy's 'ruKernelTool' to flash that firmware. I also have a Fritzbox 7170 that was produced for Germany and used the said tool to flash it with the (german language) Annex A Firmware that AVM provides for usage in Austria and Switzerland. You can do exactly the same, using the english language Annex A Firmware.

P.S. I downloaded Freetz v1.1.1 and looked around menuconfig and I see there an option to select de firmware but choose en as language under mod section. Is this, maybe, safer and quicker way to get original firmware translated into english?
Also I saw few nifty things I could include into firmware but I'm voried that I'll lose DECT functionality or something like that.

@mmesh:

Hi and welcome to the forum.

What you ask for is to change from german FW to international FW.
In principle you have two options to do it: you can use freetz or speed-to-fritz.
But the problem is: You own a 7270.v1 with only 8 MB of flash memory (HWRevision 122).
The 7270.v2 with 16 MB of flash memory has HWRevision 139.

The image files for the 122 is modular, using plugins. Thus one can load a kernel even bigger than 8 MB, because it is splitted in plugins.
The image files for the 139 do not use plugins, thus they can't be loaded on a 122.
The international FW is written for the 139; it does not use plugins!

Because you have a 122, you must use the plugin method.
Afak it is not possible to use the multilingual version in the plugin modus.
But it is possible to substitute the german modules by english modules.
This can be done either using freetz or using sp2fr.
I have done it for spanish language in a 7270.v1 using sp2fr. It worked fine, but the answering machine didn't. That was the reason why I came back to the german version.

You can try to do the operation, but be advised: It may be stony for a beginner.

Good luck!
