Converting a German targeted Fritz!Box Fon Wlan to an International version

WHICH procedure to do WHAT?
Sorry... I mean what you described at #1144. I'm going to change to English version hoping to activate g.729 codec.

Does anyone know how to change language in Fritz 7141 to English?
It is possible, but it is not easy.
First, you must install a FW from FB7170 on your FB7141. The easiest way to do this is using speed-to-fritz by Jpascher.
After having the 7170 FW installed, you must change the environment parameter "firmware_version" from value "avm" to value "avme". You should do this using FTP / adam2.
Having done that, you can install an english FW version for FB7170.

If you are willed to try this way, I can give you some more details how to proceed.

7050

Hello, I have one avm 7050.

After succefully upgrade firmware from AnnexB(de) to AnnexA(en) I tried to upload a new image from firmware over adam2-ftp. And now my FrtizBox die ((. I can`t ping fritzbox... Maybe IPadress changed after image upload? How can repair whithout IP adress? Can I upload firmware over SerialCable(rs232)?

.
@nodekra:

If you have FW =< 14.04.26 try IP 192.168.178.254

If you have FW >= 14.04.30 try IP 169.254.1.1

(these are the "back door" IPs)

--------------------------------

Serial console exists, but needs welding. If interested, use the search function.

Hi ppl...

After searching this huge post i still cant find a solution to my problem!
I have a Fritz!box 7270 german language and i want to change to english. i tried upgrading the firmware with the fritz_as_avme_newer.tar the box then endlessly reboots (looping all the time) then i try upgrading the firmware with the FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7270_16.AnnexB.en-de-es-it-fr.04.76.recover-image.exe and the FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7270.en-de-es-it.04.67.recover-image.exe ... no luck, it says:

Searching FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7270 at: 192.168.1.1
One system found! - Detecting the current version.
Version successfully detected!
Hardware: FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7270
Bootstrap: 1371
Firmware: 54.04.76
FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7270 firmware is incompatible with the recovery firmware

Can someone help me please?
What am i doing wrong?

Hope this helps

Thanks in advance

Nothing - your box has only 8 mb memory (HWR-Nr 122, 16 mb boxes HWR is 139) - this is not sufficient to load the international firmware that counts more than 10 mb - at least it is not possible on a normal upgrade way.

:( so there is no way i can put this in english right?

Might give it a try opening box's ftp-server: disconnect box from power - if your OS is XP disable "mediasensing" (google helps) - type (do not ENTER yet) into DOS-Window "http://192.168.178.1" (supposing this is your box's IP) - connect box to power and after 2-3 seconds press "ENTER". This should open a window where you will be asked a user name and a password. Each time type "adam2" and press "Enter" - password will not give you an echo back!

Finally you should see "ftp>"

type there (observe minor and major letters)

quote SETENV firmware_version avme

quote SETENV firmware_info en-de-es-it-fr.54.04.76

and enter each time. After ENTER you should get answer "commmand successful". After the second successful command type "bye". Window will disappear. Now run immediately the en-de-es-it-fr-54.04.76 RECOVER.

DO UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES REBOOT THE BOX OR DISCONNECT IT FROM POWER (even not when recover program aks you to do so).

Good luck! Post result here

Thanks i´ll give a try and as soon as i have the results i´ll post them here! ;)

Please, help with 7270

Guys (and gals?), please, can somebody help me with my 7270 conversion?

I'd managed to work my 7270 in German, since when I first bought it I didn't manage to convert it to English, although I tried following each and every guide I found step by step. Now my line is changed to PSTN due to an upgrade, so I thought I'd change it from ISDN to PSTN and at the same time change its interface as well. Now it's busted.

I started by following the guide of a guy that copied some info from here. The steps he gave were...

1. Enable telnet to 7270 by throwing #96*7* from a telephone
2. Telnet to it
3. echo "firmware_version avme"> /proc/sys/urlader/environment
4. Upgrade with international firmware

Did it. Didn't work. And, I couldn't get to the web interface.

I read the guides here and changed the firmware to avme and a lower version than the included firmware. Tried updating with 4-5 different firmware versions. Each and every one threw a "cannot determine version" message - even the German ones (although I don't remember the exact message, I recognised it since it came at the same point with the English version ones).

I've done all the needed changes to registry, network cards, I'm using the same cable with which I had restored the router before (when I was using it in German)... If anyone can help, please, do so... I'm lost.

I must also say that I cannot seem to be able to reconnect through telnet to undo the first change I did, but I -can- get through FTP.

Best regards
Ducklord

Ooookay, so, here we go with some more info, after a bit of experimenting...

My installed firmware version is 54.04.70 (if I'm not mistaken, I remember the "70" part but it could be 56.04.70)...

The "avme" setting "sticks" after setting it and doesn't change - and that's what prevents me from getting in the interface. After changing it again to avm (after lots of trial and error), I can get back in. Problem is, I cannot change the firmware, whatever I try. It seems to only update from the web interface and only with official firmwares.

I tried whatever you mention (changing to avme and recovering with international firmware) and "it cannot find the device" (the message I mentioned in my previous post). I tried changing to avme through telnet and updating to international firmware from the web interface without restarting (since the ".exe" recovery images are not accepted, I tried to circumvent them and force an update through the web interface)... Nada... Nothing...

Problem is, even if there isn't a way to change the menus to an International version (something that I'd like since I don't speak German), I -have- to find a way to change it to PSTN, or else I'm bust and I have to throw it and buy a new one (which I cannot afford)... And, 'cause I didn't mention it, no, the telefonicus PSTN pseudo-image didn't work as well... :-(

Please, can someone help?
Best regards

Please, can someone help?
Welcome to the forum, ducklord!

It seems, you managed things well. Don't worry, there is a solution for your problems.

I understand your problems after changing the parameter "firmware" version to "avme". That's normal.
But I do not understand your problems with "...recover-image.exe" file. That sounds strange.

Could it be that the original firmware was not 54.04.70, but 74.04.70?
That would mean that you own a FB7270_v3, which is not compatible with the "standard" FB7270.
(v3 is the new version of FB7270, which soon will replace the "old" FB7270).
The "standard" firmware versions 54.04.xx do not run at a FB7270_v3.

Look to the sticker at the back side of your FB7270, if there is written something like "v3".
If so, that would explain your problems. In this case we will give you support how to proceed.

Anyway, if you succeed to enter the GUI, post here the first 50 lines of the support file for more information.
(support file is obtained by typing "http://fritz.box/html/support.html" at yout Internet browser)
.

@ducklord: is it possible you got an 8mb version of the 7270 and not the 16 mb? The 8mb cannot accept an international fimware file because they have sizes of app. between 9,2 and 10, ... mb.

Go back to german avm-fw again and do what "el_valiente" proposed: Post here the first -I would say 20 is enough- lines of the support data file. If your box is 16 mb it will not be too difficult to change it from avm-german fw to avme-international.
To dismiss doubts: Which recovery file did you try to use? Please write down the full name.

Thanks for the replies guys...

I looked at the sticker and I couldn't find any mention of "V3". So... here are the diagnostics:

Do I have any hope, doctors? :) And even if I cannot change it to an international version, can I change it to at least support PSTN, or do I have to sell it / throw it away?

Thanks for your advice, answers and valuable time.

Do I have any hope, doctors?
Yes, you do!
Your FB7270 is version v2 with 16MB flash memory.
Changing to international version is easy for this model. The "how to" is already described here in the forum. For instance in [post=1404625]this post[/post] by imagomundi.

Follow the steps carefully and your box will become the international version of FB7270.
There you can select the language and switch between AnnexA and AnnexB directly from the GUI.
Good luck!
.

Thanks for the help, but... it didn't work.
I did everything that was said in the post you gave me (I had actually tried it again before)... Nothing. Again "it doesn't recognize the version"... The strange thing is that even when the modem is in German, id CANNOT recover from a genuine recovery firmware. It always displays "cannot determine the version" (or something similar) and aborts the firmware upload...

Any ideas? I've disabled my firewall and, as I've said before, if I'm not terribly mistaken, I've done the necessary registry and lancard settings... :-(

best regards
Ducklord

It always displays "cannot determine the version" (or something similar) and aborts the firmware upload...
I'm sorry, but I can't help you with this information.
Please describe exactly what you are trying and what error message(s) you receive at what point.
Changing to international FW version has been done successfully by many users, thus is must work in your case, too.
.

Did you do EXACTLY what is described in the thread linked by "el_valiente"? Did you really use the correct RECOVER-fw (NOT the regular image) "..en-de-es-it.54.04.67.recover-image.exe" after uploading telefonicus...avme_newer.tar?

Oookay, I'll tell you from memory (since when I use my Fritzbox I cannot connect to the Internet, and now I'm "in" through a different router)...

1. I go to firmware-update (I don't remember how's that in German)...
2. I select that I want to upload manually a firmware through the Browse button.
3. I select the fritz_as_avme_newer.tar and the whole thing starts.
4. After a while, it tells me that it failed to update the firmware (something like "fehler" - am I writing this right?) - I used Google translate to find that out. It gives me an option to try to force the update (fortsetzen?)...

now, here we do a little break: I tried to recover the firmware with FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7270.en-de-es-it.04.67.recover-image.exe at this point and it didn't work (cannot determine the version). I tried to re-upload the fritz_as_avme_newer.tar file and "fortsetzen" the procedure, after that recovering with the file I mentioned. Nothing. I tried restarting the firmware in both cases, like the recover.exe tells me to do. Nothing. That makes 6 different tries to "recover".

Since I don't have a web interface and I cannot "recover", I didn't reach the part were I have to upload the FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7270.en-de-es-it-fr.54.04.76.image file. :-(

I should say that I also tried to "recover" with these:

FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7270.04.46.recover-image.exe
FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7270.04.59.recover-image.exe
FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7270.04.76.recover-image.exe
FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7270_16.AnnexB.en-de-es-it-fr.04.76.recover-image.exe
FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7270_v3.04.76.recover-image.exe

...and none "sees" the version of router (or whatever the message is - you know what message I'm talking about)... They -do- "find" the router, but it seems like they don't like/can't recognise the version they see. Seems exactly like if they had tried to get access to a shared folder that they know exist but they don't have "the rights" to "get in"..!

Strange thing is that I -had- recovered my router previously with the FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7270.04.46.recover-image.exe file (which if I'm not mistaken is from the CD that came with the device). Now even that doesn't "see the version".

* I have my firewall disabled
* I have not changed the cables since I'd flashed it earlier
* I -tried- changing the LAN cable through all 4 positions, remembering that some fritzboxes had the LAN1-LAN2 or LAN1/LAN4 ports mixed

Nada...

I'm at my limits and have been really banging my head on the wall about this. Really. There's a nice new crack on it I'll have to cover with a painting.

Any ideas?

I have to say that I have more than 20 years of experience with computers, thus I know that it probbably is "human error" - I did something wrong. If all I did up to now is right, the problem must lie elsewhere... But where? Could you please point me out to some info on ANY bit of info on how to flash the router, starting from point 0? I mean, to re-check my network cards, network settings, everything. Today I'll try changing cables (just in case it's "gone bad" - har-har), and if that doesn't work, I'll... change computers. This-can't-be-happening!

Best regards
Ducklord
