I tried also with mounting - it seems this device already exists

You can check if the sysfs is already mounted by typing "mount" into a telnet/ssh prompt. If you find a line with sysfs then you do not have to mount it once more. Simply use the mount point within the script. The line

mount: Mounting sys on /var/sysfs failed: Device or resource busy

shows that there is already something, which will most probably be the sysfs.

mknod: /dev/sda: File exists

Seems that the device node is already there. If it is still there after a reboot, you can ignore this line.

Error: no sysfs found.

Argh. This means that your busybox does not have this two used applets compiled in. Is it an original firmware? Is your box a german or an english version? Maybe there is a differences between these language versions.
However, you can change line 32 in the spindown.sh from

SYSFS="$(grep sysfs /proc/mounts | head -n 1 | awk '{print $2}')"

to

SYSFS="/var/sysfs"

which disables the "autodetection" and uses the given mount point (Remind the Unix-line terminations when editing).
I will update the script to use /var/sysfs as a fallback but currently the submission date of my diploma thesis has highest priority ;-)

Thanks! I made, as U described in last post, and now it works

Bit it works strange - HD spinns down, after one minute it spinns up again. An so on. Looks like something 'ping' HD. Maybe the reason is - webtransmission, running on FB.

If webtransmission is using the disk, you found the reason :-Ö
If not, the reason could probably be a journaling filesystem which updates its
metadata in regular intervals and therefore accesses the disk. Ext3 for example usually writes every 5s to the disk but then the result should be that the disk never spins down...

Disk is formatted as FAT16.
Webtransission is started, but have no active torrents.

Ok, did I understood correctly: the disk goes down after 15 min and then spins up again 1min later? This is really strange but there must be any process which tries to access the disk. Maybe it is AVMs FTP-Daemon?! You could try to kill it for testing.
BTW: Did you already tried without webtransmission?

Yes, after the kill there will be no ftp access anymore! However, restarting it should work, if not: reboot/power-cycle the box!
You didn't mention if the disk spin down problem could be solved when killing the daemon?! Did it work?

Spinning/down behaviour of disk doesn't changed.
What I'm thinking about: If disk was stopped after 5 minutes - this mean there were no access to disk in last 5 minutes. After spinningdown it starts again after 1 minute.
My idea, it was not access from FB operation system. Maybe my USB case sends something to disk?

I don't know if/how the USB case handles the disk, so yes this might be the problem. But it could also be the firmware of the disk itself. The documentation of the used sg_utils tools directly states that it is not guaranteed to work with all disk. Maybe your disk fits into this category...

I tested without Webtransmission and without ftpdaemon as well - the same behaviour
So I desided wait some time and simply buy 8Gb USBstick.

Weiß jemand, was der genaue Unterschied zwischen Standby und Sleep ist? Einen wirklichen Unterschied konnte ich bisher nicht feststellen...

Mal eine ganz andere Sache:
Mir ist aufgefallen, dass bei laufendem Spindown-Tool das WLAN nicht ordnungsgemäß aus der Nachschaltung zurück in den normalen Betrieb geht. Die LED wechselt zwar auf grün, jedoch kann ich mich mit keinen Clients am Netz anmelden. Erst nach einem Reboot geht es wieder. Bei deaktiviertem Spindown verursacht dies keine Probleme.

Sieht da jemand einen Zusammenhang? Ich tu mir da etwas schwer.

Puh! Wie das im Zusammenhang stehen soll, sehe ich auch überhaupt nicht. Vor allem, fehlt mir da auch jede Idee, wo man da debugging-mäßig ansetzen sollte...

Hallo! bei mir (FB 7270) funktioniert das Skript einwandfrei. Ist es möglich, dass es automatisch bei einem neustart der FB mitgeladen wird? Weil so muss man ja alles dann wieder händisch eingeben...

das Gute vorweg: Die Platte wird in den Schlaf gelegt

Leider klappt der wget-Befehl nicht beim Starten in der debug.cfg. Mit

wget http://www.heimpold.de/dsmod/spindown.sh -O /var/tmp/spindown.sh

liegt die spindown.sh noch nicht im /var/tmp nach dem Start.

Gebe ich den Befehl an der Konsole ein, klappt der Download und ich kann die Platte abschalten.


Wo kann da der Fehler liegen?

Wahrscheinlich ist die Box noch nicht online, wenn die debug.cfg abgearbeitet wird.

Deswegen sieht man meistens die Schleifen, die den Download erst nach einem erfolgreichen Ping starten.

Ich habe gerade mal folgendes versucht, um den Online-Weg zu umgehen: Die beiden Dateien auf die USB-Platte gelegt und via cp ins /var/tmp/ über die debug.cfg kopiert.

Auch hier befinden sich beide Dateien nicht im /var/tmp/. Von Hand geht allerdings auch dieser Weg.

(Da ich über die debug.cfg den UPNP-Server Mediatomb starte, wird sie schon richtig abgearbeitet.)
