I tried these steps but got the following error when installing freetz 1.1. make complains it can't find a firmware it was looking for. Anyone who has already a firmware that can be used and shared?
Second: Your post does not contain any information at all - you should not expect somebody being able to help you without knowing any detail: what are "these steps" , what error you got and before any other: Which FRITZ box are you talking about and which firmware?

Indeed a "beginner" mistake. I was in a hurry but that should never be a reason to forget the essential details.
I assumed everybody knew I have a 7240, as this topic is especially for this but it would have been better that I confirmed this.
Further my problem is the compilation of freetz.
My steps so far:
- download freetz1.1
- make menuconfig (select 7240)
Now the step that fails:
Code:
$ make
STEP 0: DOWNLOAD
downloading firmware image

So, and now the question that I had:
Is anyone been able to resolve this or does have a recent firmware for the 7240 that can handle multi language and ANNEX A. The multi language is optional, but I require an ANNEX A firmware as I live in the Netherlands.
Simple reason for the failure: There is no 73.04.70 on avm ftp server as it is replaced by the04.80 just a few days ago.
I would consider "speed-to-fritz" (and not FREETZ) the far better tool for your purpose. You coud choose as "first fw" the 73.04.80 and modify it with the "54.04.76-en-de-es-it-fr" as "second fw" choosing from this second the dsl-driver and the multilanguage parts.
Hallo all!
Sorry for my English, am from Kazakhstan. My sister from Germany present me 7240. In my country Annex A. In my Fritz FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7240.AnnexB.04.70
Am download StinkyLinux (Germany version) and run in Stinkly speed-to-fritz.
This work am do from my old modem Dlink. speed-to-fritz donwload FW 73.04.80 and 54.04.76-en-de-es-it-fr. After I am shut down Stinky and conneckt my PC to fritz(PC IP manual as 192.168.178.7 and 192.168.178.1 as Getaway)
If i want put new mod firmware to my 7240 from speed-to-fritz, my fritz dont work after this job.
In ftp ADAM2 i am read that : annex B fw_version avme. If manual (in ADAM2) set annex as A and use new recovery-image making in speed-to-fritz my router work . In web-interface only Deutsch, if am power off in my fritz back to annex B.
My question: if i want English menu and only annex A that settings in speed-to-fritz I need to do? What firmware should as 1-st and 2-nd and which options to choose in speed-to-fritz?
Thanks in advance.
You choose the right ones: 1st = 73.04.80 and 2nd = 54.04.76.en-de-es-it-fr
options to choose: "multilanguage" and (my recomendation) "force multiannex" (you can then choose between A and B under "dsl-informationen > einstellungen") - finally "take dsl driver from 2nd fw" (is already marked by default). That should be all. There is also a feature allowing to unchoose the languages that are not needed - in your case you might unmark "de-es-it and fr" - leaving English to remain as only menu language.

I have not seen this thread until today.
As I understand it, you did successfully load the multilanguage version 54.04.74_en-de-it-es-fr onto your FB7240.
I tried the same game many times, using different versions of speed-to-fritz in direct contact with the autor, Jpascher.
Everything works fine, but the answering machine doesn't! There are only some text fragments in english, but no coherent function.
Could you please check the function of the answering machine in your FB7240_en-de-it-es-fr and post the results here.
Thank you in advance.
.
After being very happy with the firmware for my 7240 I got I wanted more stable version (had at least 1 hang per day) and decided to work with speed-to-fritz. My first attempt worked well but it was german so I decided to remove everything and rebuild an english version. But after uploading this my fritzbox keeps rebooting. So I can't connect by telnet or whatever. Any thought how to get back to a working environment?
BTW I did not remove cables or whatever during the flashing.
What did you remove ("everything=??) and how did you rebuild an english version for a 7240??
If you follwo instructions for recovery in every detail (disconnect any other equipment and shut off any other WiFi, Lan- Blutooth or whatsoever card on your PC) it should work and would be very rare if it wouldn't. If your OS is Vista try it with a computer with XP.
These where my steps:
- I downloaded the Ubuntu VM with speed-to-fritz
- Started speed-to-fritz
- A new firmware was compiled
- Removed the whole directory speed-to-fritz
- Started speed-to-fritz
- Selected 7240, englisch instead of german and Annex A instead of B
- uploaded the new firmware to the fritz box
And I tried to repair it several times on XP, and get with the following error:
FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7240 suchen an: 192.168.178.1
Eine Anlage gefunden! - Ermitteln der aktuellen Version.
Version erfolgreich ermittelt!
Hardware: FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7240
Urlader: 1484
Firmware: 73.04.80
Firmware der FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7240 ist mit der Recover-Firmware inkompatibel
The final name of the created firmware is:
fw_73.04.80-0_Fritz_Box_7240_60.04.58-11691-sp2fr-09.12.28-r-742M-1081_OEM-avme_annexA_en.image
Is my repair program to new or my firmware too bad?
By choosing "english" you changed the parameter "firmware_version" from value "avm" to value "avme".
FW 73.04.80 is not compatible with "avme" - that's the reason for reboot and for the message "... ist mit der Recover-Firmware inkompatibel".
Solution: Use FTP to access the box and change "avme" into "avm". You will find "how to use ftp" here in the forum.
After that, run the recovery for 73.04.76 (the newest one) and your box will be alive again (in german, naturally).
How did you knew this? As this was indeed the problem, but I did/do have a firmware that is multi language on my 7240.
Your solution steps were a bit cryptic but I managed. I was able to upload the other new firmware based on 73.04.80 but after changing from ANNEX A to B (and a reboot of course) still the DSL was not recognized. After putting back the older firmware I was finaly able to work with the fritzbox. But as the firmware (based on the 73.04.68 ) gave me some issues I like to look for alternatives.
