Converting a German targeted Fritz!Box Fon Wlan to an International version

I used 7-zip to delete instal and copy in a modified one with A rather than B in annex.

Other variable OEM already seems to be okay at avm

When I apply the firmware I get this error....

Es trat ein nicht näher spezifizierter Fehler während des Updates auf

"An error not specified more near arose during the update"

Any ideas?

Dit you unpacked the .tar files?

You shouldn't unpack firmware-files. You have to upgrade with the 'packed' file!!

The very old busybox tar on the Fritzbox accepts only an old tar-format.
May be you tool can not produce this old format.
You might try the changes direct via telnet in this case.

Thanks for the replies re:using lan posrt as wan port
One final question before I go and buy one from Ebay to convert.
Can the fritz!box still function connected to a normal lan port on my router , i.e cablemodem ---> wireless router (dhcp) ----> fritz!box fon wlan

Thanks

Hi jimbo19,

I am not 100 % sure what you need.
First to use a fritzbox behind a router it should be capable of the "ATA" mode.
See e.g. here http://www.wehavemorefun.de/fritzbox/Link_zu_den_Bildern
I am not sure if my picture is 100 % right, but it should be...

Second you want to use the Fritzbox behind a WLAN:
http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showthread.php?t=86483

The thread is unfortunately in german...

I think you need to dig deeper into the fritzbox feature to get the right version.

Yes it can, BUT you will only be able to connect a compuer to the fritzbox via WLAN or via the USB port. This is because the Classic (ie not the 7050) only has one port. But as you have a router then probably you will just connect your computer directly to your router.

Many thanks Darbid and Haveaniceday - time for me to get on Ebay

Calls Now In The Year 2008

Hi,
I have just noted that in the call log it thinks the date is 02.03.08 at about 10:00 rather than 05.05.06 at 20:00

Just a few years out :)

Also not sure if this helps with my failure to update the firmware but I notice the unit outputs the progress to telnet....

Ordered A Copy Of Linux

I shall try and re-pack the tar file on a real copy of linux once it arrives and I install on a spare machine.

Perhaps this will help.

Also found another UK dealer selling the 7050 but price too high :(

http://www.i-voip.co.uk/catalog/catalog_desplay.php?CallCatalog=H

I have found by the way the only way I can get the caller display time correct is to type the command sequnce in at the telnet prompt.
This was suggested by another forum member earlier in the thread.

Thankyou.

Still No Luck

Created a TAR file exatctly the same size as original with my new Linux PC but with A rather than B but still no joy :(

I have now ordered a UK version of the 7050 so perhaps with that I can compare what is different.

More news when it arrives.

Very good idea!

@Haveaniceday et al.: have you already made a script to backup the complete 7050 image ;-)

cheers,
telefonicus

No,
Is it an easy script to create / use?

When my box arrives if its firmware is very out of date I shall request an updated version from AVM.

This should also be very useful :)

...perhaps too hard for me and you :) My question was targeted @ Haveniceday and the other scripting experts.

When my box arrives if its firmware is very out of date I shall request an updated version from AVM.

That's what we are all waiting for. No updates to date :-(

You can only use tftp to write the firmware to another system. There is no easy way.
Also the regular upload procedure will not accept the image without the proper
checksum.

FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7050 Annex A - International Version

My UK 7050 arrived today complete with UK mains adapter and free sipgate.co.uk minutes offer.

Box is loaded with FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7050 Annex A, Firmware Version 14.03.91

Supplied CD is in various languages but does not contain the firmware recovery utility - thus no firmware :(

The firmware upgrade link takes you to http://www.avm.de/en/fritz_box_fon_wlan_7050_firmware/ which has nothing to offer :(

Box worked 1st time and I shall email avm soon to see if any new firmware is planned.

I would like to limit the DHCP range and this boxes user interface does not have that option.

No Telnet

:(

Seems my UK box will not even let me telnet to it

#96*7* gives a rapid dial tone but no telnet :(

The newest JFritz which includes european support says wrong password :(

Gloom :(

Also all ones on sale on ebay seem to have gone!

HummerUK

Can't you write to AVM something like

"I tried to update but I got the wrong file". Now the LEDs are blinking...

Could you please send me the recovery image?" ;-)

HummerUK schrieb:

I am not sure when it happened but prior to a certain firmware update you had to modify your box to get in with telnet. Given there are NO firmware updates for the english box I would assume that the #96*7* is simply not supported by that firmware.

I never really followed the version numbers but basically from here http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showthread.php?t=69245 there is a script that you can use. And HAND says that from Firmware-Version xx.03.96 you can use the codes you have tried above.

Telnet Now Okay

Thanks, I can now telnet but no luck with JFritz 6 which detects the box but says password is wrong..

I have checked the JFritz part of the forum but the German text does not translate very well :(
