Just click, download the file to somewhere where you can find it again.
On your box go to FW-update and use this file. After this your box should be AVM.
Then follow the rest of #295 and further

OK, i have already done it.

Now i'm trying to do the next steps, but with no success, because i really can't access it by ftp. I'm using the filezilla program, i put 192.168.178.1 in the address field, and then adam2 on user and password. The program automatically use the port 21, but i can't connect ??

Am i doing anything wrong ?

Once again i appreciate your help, because as you can see i'm a complete newbie !!

I did a mistake and i converted my annex b 7050 14.04.26 to german annex b 14.04.33 . I found information to a greek forum on how to convert german 14.04.33 to an english annex b version. I found the mtd2.bin file and i sent it to 7050. After all, i understood that the mtd2.bin i found was for the 7140 annex a and not for 7050... All the recovery firmwares recognized my 7050 as 7140 annex but not with 7140 firmware version, with 7050 14.04.31 version. So i could not convert it nor to 7140, nor to 7050. I could log in to the ftp server of 7050, but 14.04.31 did not recognize "quote SETENV" commands... Now the POWER led does not light. Is there any way to recover my 7050? Sorry for my bad english :)

I understand you are using a Windows PC so why don't you simply use the command console?

Start the recovery software fritz.box_fon_wlan_7140.annexa.en.04.34.recover-image.exe from the Windows Explorer and follow the instructions. The program will issue an error message, something like "wrong version". Keep the Fritzbox powered (do not disconnect from the power source), you are now connected to the bootloader.

Enter: [WIN]-R (the Windows-key and the R-key)
Enter command and hit the [RET]urn-key.The command console pops up.

Enter ftp 192.168.178.1 (or 192.168.178.2 if the program detected that address) and hit the [RET]urn key.
Enter adam2[RET]
Enter adam2[RET] (in the dark)

Enter the following lines:

quote SETENV HWRevision,107
quote SETENV ProductID,Fritz_Box_7140_AnnexA
quote SETENV annex,A
quote SETENV kernel_args,annex=A

If each command is executed "successfully" you're done with Adam.
Enter bye

Enter exit

Start the recovery software fritz.box_fon_wlan_7140.annexa.en.04.34.recover-image.exe again.

You don't have to disconnect the power when asked, just click NEXT.

Have fun! :)

First of all, THANK YOU for your support !

Then i must tell you that i'm still far from the end ...

Let me explain the whole process:

1) I have upgraded successfully the box to the last German FW, i.e., ...33.
2) Then i didn't know if i should use the file fritz_als_avm_new.tar in the upgrade box, or the untar version on: install. So i tried the first one but unsuccessfully (I guess, because that's all in german), so i did try the second one, but i guess the result was the same.
3) I followed your last post #445, and i executed the last English FW recovery tool, as you said it tolds me "Wrong Version", and then i bean the FTP session.
4) I logged in successfully, but when i try every one of these sentences:
quote SETENV HWRevision,107
quote SETENV ProductID,Fritz_Box_7140_AnnexA
quote SETENV annex,A
quote SETENV kernel_args,annex=A
It says Environment Variable not set, in all of them.
5) You have told me to read every posts carefully, so i did so, what have make me decide to execute "quote SETENV firmware_version avme", what results OK.
6) Then i tried once again to execute the Recovery tool, but with no positive results !
7) After the 5h of this morning, i thought that my error was the unsuccessful Script step (*.tar ), and then i tried to get it run again, but from this moment on, i didn't get anymore the Fritz!box interface on 192.168.178.1. I tried in different computers, whit no Firewalls nor Antivirus running, but nothing. I can't even recover it with the german recovery tool !!!

PLEASE HELP ME !!!!

I have some News !!

I have successufully recovered with the last EN AnnexB version (fritz.box_fon_wlan_7140.annexb.en.04.34.recover-image.exe).

Now i have my Fritz!Box 7140 in English, from avm, but Unfortunatelly ANNEX B !!!

I tried to upgrade to version with Annex A, but it tolds me that the version was not from avm !! The tried to recover with fritz.box_fon_wlan_7140.annexa.en.04.34.recover-image.exe as you (Telefonicus) have told me, but no way.

I still get "environment variable not set" at anytime i try to change the variables you suggested.

Any ideas ??

telefonicus schrieb:
echo "kernel_args annex=A" > /proc/sys/urlader/environment

I'm not sure where to use this command ??

Anyway, i tried on the same place where i use the "quote SETENV..." commands, i.e., on ftp.

I tried a few times but it always returned "Invalid Command".

By the way, i also tried telnet 192.168.178.1 but i never get connected. It's not a big deal if is there any way to solve this question by ftp !

Once again i'm in a lack of ideas...

Use telnet, not ftp. The bootloader is lacking essential ftp features.

To enable telnet access: connect a telephone and dial #96*7*

Sorry, I forgot to mention that in my previous post. Good luck!

AnnexA DSL Capabilities

Hi I posted in the long Annex-a thread about the effects on the line quality of running Annex-B hardware in the UK (with annex-a firmware).

http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showthread.php?p=942911#post942911
(I should probably have posted here. )

I've yet to see a direct comparison of Annex-A & Annex-B hardware on the same line, which would really help.

Here are my stats from an Annex-A ADSL2+ modem:
ADSL Link | Downstream | Upstream
Connection Speed 16380 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 11.0 db 5.8 db
Noise Margin 8.3 db 13.5 db

From that all I know is I have little attenuation & not too much noise.

Does anyone have any firm evidence in the variation in connection quality? Are particular models of FritzBoxes less affected by the annex-a firmware?

I may end up moving to a 24Mbps service, however I'm trying to consolidate all my network hardware, I would love to sell my ADSL2+ modem, WLAN router and run everything on the FritzBox, but as I'm looking at £80 for an imported Annex-B, I have to get it right first time - I'm really short on cash.

Hello !

I've done everything as you said, the echo command didn't responded anything, but the box is the same, without any modification or success.

I'm thinking that i have to send it to the trash !!

Give the box a minute to start up in order to make telnet work. Or better, connect a telephone and wait for the internal dial tone (toot-toot-toot...)

Then enter #69*7* and receive the answer tone, one long "toooooooooot"

Then enter telnet 192.168.178.1

Good luck!

Meanwhile i get some time and someone suggested me a different procedure using TFTP, So i did the following:

So I won't take any responsibility for what you are doing.

First you have to double check where exactly the bootloader in your fritz is located. Therefore do the following:

Code: [Download] [Nascondi] [Select]
Code: [Download] [Mostra]
~ $ cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 00800000 00010000 "phys_mapped_flash"
mtd1: 006ccb00 00010000 "filesystem"
mtd2: 00770000 00010000 "kernel"
mtd3: 00010000 00010000 "bootloader"
mtd4: 00040000 00010000 "tffs (1)"
mtd5: 00040000 00010000 "tffs (2)"
mtd6: 00200000 00010000 "jffs2"
mtd7: 00570000 00010000 "Kernel without jffs2"

As you see the bootloader is actually located on the mtd3 block (but you have to try this command on your machine. It may be on a different location). Now you can overwrite it with your own bootloader.

So, assuming the bootloader is on the mtd3 block, place your bootloader in the tftp server default directory, rename it mtd3.bin, start your tftp server (I recommend Solarwinds) and type the following:

tftp -g -l /var/mtd3.bin -r mtd3.bin <ip as appears on the tftp server window>

With this command you have transfered the bootloader in a temporary directory. Please double check it is actually there:

$ cd /var
/var $ ls -la
Code: [Download] [Nascondi] [Select]
Code: [Download] [Mostra]
drwxr-xr-x 9 root root 0 Sep 21 20:35 .

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 624 Jul 10 13:47 post_install
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Jan 1 2000 run
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 0 Jan 1 2000 spool
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 Jan 1 2000 sysfs -> /sys
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 0 Sep 21 19:10 tmp

You can see the mtd3.bin (whose size is 65536) is actually there. Now you can enter the potentially dangerous command.
Again, you do it at your own risk So keep your fingers crossed and enter:

cat /var/mtd.3.bin > /dev/mtdblock3

It will take a couple of seconds. Now you can reboot and hope that everything went fine.

The problem is that after that i got no access to the Fritz, neither by Ftp nor by Telnet.
I also tried to use a recover image, but it just couldn't find my Fritz.

By the way, the ip on the Laptop used in all this process was always the 192.168.178.23, and now is 169.254.194.20, but if i run a ipconfig /all, i can't see the Fritz.

Also i have never got again the Wan light on. Now the only light i see is the Power one, and is always blinking.

Someone can HELP me ???

Thanks, Crake.

...seems nobody wants to condole. Your Fritz is dead and you know you've killed him. I think we all feel sorry with you. Go get yourself a 7170, it's much more fun.

BTW, what was your firmware revision?

Is the ~ $ cat /proc/mtd output from your box or is it what someone wrote to you?

Where did you take the mtd3.bin from?

Hey Guys, I need help. I have tried to google, but if I have missed it, then accept my apologies.

I have a Fritzbox 7141. It had Annex A, and I followed one of the threads in this forum to convert it to Annex A. After the conversion it still shows the box as Annex A.

From what I have gathered from this forum, is that I need to modify the bootloader. The above post is very helpful in terms of how to do this.

But I am a bit lost in terms of where to get the bootloader mtd3.bin files from? Will appreciate any help.

Cheers,
pintux

But I am a bit lost i
So am I after reading your post .......

I have a Fritzbox 7141. It had Annex A, and I followed one of the threads in this forum to convert it to Annex A. After the conversion it still shows the box as Annex A.
So what do you want it to be ... B... Z ?
Please state what your problem is and where you want to go

Zuletzt bearbeitet:
You are right mate- I made a mistake while typing. I had Annex B (bought from ebay.de). Converted to Annex A, but the environment variable stays as Annex B.

Am I correct that I need to change the boot loader? Help!

Where does it say Annex B ? On the DSL-infopage of the FritzBox or are you looking in telnet ?
I have changed several 7170 boxes from Annex B to Annex A and in telnet they all still say there Annex B however they operate as Annex A

On Telnet when I run command 'cat /proc/sys/urlader/environment', the variable annex is shown as A.

I am having trouble connecting this box to dsl - the event log find a dsl connection but is unable to synchronize. I have therefore assumed that my modification to Annex A has been faulty.

Any suggestions, what I should be looking for?

Cheers,
Pintux
