control bandwidth?

Hello,

I want to be able to control the bandwidth of individual users.

Is there any suggestion how to start?

At this moment sometimes when my son is looking youtube, I even can't have a normal phone conversation (VOIP).

Does any one know about a package that can do this?
(It's no problem if it is not yet compiled for the fritzbox, I am a developer, and should be able to get a linux packet working on fritz)

trafic-charing option in AVM webif can not help you? Usualy VOIP-packets should have a higher priority as normal IP traffic. In Germany a lot of ADSL/VOIP providers use a second ADSL-login specially and only for VOIP connections. Fritz!Box supports such second ADSL logins and routes whole VOIP traffic over this second ADSL "connection". In this case VOIP trafic becomes higher priority and "separate" bandwidth (theoretically).

For this specific problem maybe traffic shaping could work. But I want to go beyond this, I also want that when I download I at least have the same bandwidth as my son. But maybe more sophisticated trafic shaping is the answer. I will have a look to it

I did find something that is doing what I wanted:
iproute2. I have already build it, and am now trying to use it.

HI zusammen, ich grab das Thema grad nochmal aus :grab: . Hab kein anderes zu dem Thema gefunden.

Hab das gleiche vor wie de-wolff beschrieben hat. Also ein Bandwidth management einfügen um einzelnen clients ne feste Bandbreite zuzuweisen.

Gibts dafür schon nen fertiges paket im aktuellen Freetz?

Er scheint sich da ja selbst was gebastelt zu haben, was für mich mangels tiefenwissen keine lösung ist

P.S: Traffic shaping is keine alternative da das mangels 2. PVC nicht so ganz funktioniert. Und scheint auch mit der Synchronen Bandbreite nich so ganz klar zu kommen :|

Ein wirklich einfache Suche im freetz-Wiki hätte dir die Antwort auf "iproute2" gebracht, was er ja scheinbar nutzt dafür. Hast du das mal gemacht?
