Converting a German targeted Fritz!Box Fon Wlan to an International version

So... What is the verdict?

The verdict is: Your box has only 8mb memory (HWRevision 122) - not suitable to upload an International FW (has more than 10 mb). Solution: Build a German FW with Annex-A-DSL-Driver taken from an international FW (also has more than 8 mb but uploading process is done in "blocks" - each one smaller than 8 mb). Build can be done either with speed-to-fritz or Freetz. In speed-to-fritz you could try to also choose "multilanguage" first and then (in the same process) cancel all languages except English. Would be a nice experiment to see if it works - iif it does not work it will simply not work but not harm your box.

EDIT: el_valiente won the race - content of both answers is similar

Dear All,

This is my first post here, so I'd like to say hello to everyone in this great forum.
I need your help with my FB 7050. As my German is exteremely poor, I have tried to change

the language version into English.

To that purpose, I used solutions that I could find in local forums:

First I tried to downgrade ver. 14.04.31 to 14.04.15. I know it's a bit tricky because it

involves replacing the new version of mtd2.bin file with an older version.

1. I used TFTPGUI software to send the mtd2.bin to my FB.
2. Then I used telnet connection:

telnet 192.168.178.1

and the following commands

cd /var/tmp
tftp -g -r mtd2.bin 192.168.178.5 (my PC)
cat mtd2.bin > /dev/mtdblock3

Then I tried to use recovery programme for 14.04.15. Unfortuanately it seems something got

wrong, so all my hope is here with you.

Now I am only able to access my FB via adam2 under address 192.168.178.2.
The browser and telnet do not work, phone reset doesn't work either.

To get FB running I connected via adam2 and set the following:
quote SETENV annex,B
quote SETENV HWRevision,76
quote SETENV ProductID,Fritz_Box_7050_AnnexB
quote SETENV firmware_version,avm
quote SETENV firmware_info,14.04.15

These commands were successful. I have tried to run recover_image.exe for 14.04.15 - but during recovery I get this error:

I am a complete layman in telecommunications and computer networking, but I'm a quick learner ;-)
Could you help me to fix my FB?

EDIT: Additional note - my box is 1und1-branded AVM FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7050 (black). Could this be one of the reasons for this error?

Help with FB7270

Hello! :)
I'm new to the fritz!box forum. I have just bought a fb7270 but unfortunately it's in german. I have read trough the forum but i could not find a step by step guide on how to change to the international firmware.

Can someone help me on upgrading my fb7270? I probably need a detailed describtion since i'm not too good in hacking.

I know I have the 16 MB modell since i have HWRevision 139

Can this process be used to convert 1&1's 20002306 [black] AVM FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7050 Annex B to Annex A?

FBF WLAN 7050 - problems with downgrading and changing language version

Hello again,

there is some improvement with my 1und1-branded (black) FBF WLAN 7050. Finally, I have managed to get the German version 14.04.15.

Hovewer, one thing is problematic. I can access the box in browser, telephone codes seem to work, too - I tried to switch telnet on. However, now I can't communicate with the box via ftp/adam2 and neither can I communicate via telnet. What could be the soultion to this?
As far as I remember I didn't have such problems with German version 14.04.31.

I thought I could share my experience and give some advice to those who get "Winerror -3" or "Winerror 10060":

1) It seems that my box was very prone to overheating. After a few unsuccessful procedures you might lose contact with the box - the access via ftp/adam2 might not be possible. Do not panic. Let the box cool down for 2-3 hours. Then try again. In my case I could access the box again via ftp without problems.

2) The type of Winerror you get can be related to your computer (firewall, antivirus software and operating system and - last but not least - network card). I tried the downgrading procedure on my laptop and about 25 times I almost constantly got Winerror -3. I was ready to give up. Then I tried my desktop: I got Winerror -3 or Winerror 10060. And suddenly my fourth attempt was successful!

Hope you can find this helpful.

Bought Annex B instead of Annex A
I tried to convert to Annex A using a firmware upload but I got the message that the software is not developed by AVM and the upload UNSUCCESSFULL

Should I downgrade first to a managable Firmware version and does anybody have a old 29........ Annex B original firmware for me
Is there another way I can change the ANNEX??? E-mail is also welcome but will be nice too to share everything HERE ON WEB, maybe for other (novice like me)

Uploaded which "firmware"? I bet a million $ message did NOT say "unsuccessful"! It said finally: KEIN FEHLER = NO MISTAKE
RUN YOUR BOX ON YOUR DSL-A and post again

Firmware: 29.04.78

Will not allow me to change by using the PATCH image in order to change from Annex B >>>>> Annex A. It gives error that the image is not made originally For my box.

I tried using Annex A DSL but this will not work niether.

I think I need older ANNEX B firmware as I'm afraid the latest has some security against patch B>>>>>>A

Thanks

Firmware: 29.04.78

THIS fw is ONLY for ORIGINAL Annex-A-box. Your ORIGINAL Annex-B box will only accept Annex-B-fw with German language - except a rather sophisticated way to change Annex completely from B to A. Nevertheless you can get your Annex B box to run in an Annex A environment rather simply - with German language of course. I thought you would have done this.

There is absolutely no reason to speculate about "security patches" from AVM:

Pls. tell me the steps to follow in changing to ANNEX A.

tell me the steps to follow in changing to ANNEX A.

I am only willing to tell you how to make your annex B box work on your A-DSL.

The manners to change the box completely from B to A require Linux knowledge and ability to manage either "Speed-to-Fritz" or "ruKernelTool" by user "skyteddy". Both are only available in German.

Done with:

ruKernelTool

now ANNEX A

Thanks to Ulrich

Will really like to know more about ruKernelTool

Pity its in German. This could be a nice project for someone

Hi all,

Just writing to inform you that I've managed to overcome all problems and now I can finally use the English version. I had some problems with communication between the box and computer. It's best just to change computers - in my case it worked!
Merry Christmas to everyone!

Nur ist traurig das man ruKernelTool nirgendwo bekommen kann:habenwol:

FB7050 Fw:14.04.33 (success with Annex A)

Hello all,

Currently I have FB7050 (originally from 1&1) and recently successfully switched to Annex A. All that I did:

1) upgrade to latest fw.ver.14.04.33 (got it from AVM site);
2) activate telnet (#96*7*) from FON;
3) login with telnet (I prefer putty) and input this in command line:
Code:
# echo "annex A" > /proc/sys/urlader/environment
# echo "kernel_args annex A" > /proc/sys/urlader/environment
then reboot device:
Code:
# /sbin/reboot

After reboot, I have "Annex A" in "DSL-Information" page and successfully connected to my provider with PPPoE (don't forget to adjust appropriate VPI/VCI values in "Internet" settings.)

Maybe it helps to someone.
wbr, Denis.

Maybe it helps to someone.

I'm sure it will help someone - even if this is the very ancient of all the methods published in this forum and the first I used to change annex from B to A three years ago when I registered with this forum just for the reason to find a method to make my 7050-Annex B to work in a new Annex A environment.

Welcome to the forum!

It has been a while since I did mine, but you will have change the box to AVME from AVM here otherwise it will not accept the new firmware. Also when it is done you will have to use the software scripts from haveaniceday to change to Annexe A, these are found here hope this helps

Hi,
I also do not speak German, I just want to switch my annex B 7170 to english, but script refered to does not change AVME from AVM ...

I read 1st post in this thread and couple of last ones...
I have german fw 29.04.76...how to switch it to english ?
I have looked into tar-ed script refered in qoute....looked into it and refer to lines:

PROVIDER=avme
######################
if [ ! -d /usr/www/$PROVIDER ]
then
echo 7,1>${LED_DEVICE}
/sbin/reboot &
exit $INSTALL_OTHER_ERROR
fi

When I have telnet-ed to the box ....
# cd /usr/www/
# ls -l
drwxrwxr-x 1 root root 109 Jul 27 2009 1und1
drwxrwxr-x 1 root root 109 Jul 27 2009 avm
drwxrwxr-x 1 root root 66 Jul 27 2009 cgi-bin
drwxrwxr-x 1 root root 109 Jul 27 2009 freenet
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Jul 27 2009 html -> /var/html
drwxrwxr-x 1 root root 20 Jul 27 2009 kids

It seems that from 1st post in this thread sw has been changed a lot since now it have security checks...
Of course my box does not have 'avme' directory so this script fails...
How to get it to english, please ?

I guess you need Annex A, right? There's a thread that describes how to upload an Annex A Firmware (of course also an english one will work) on a Annex B device here. It's all german of course, I try to give you a summary:

First step is to FTP into the FritzBox. I described that here.

So if you have a german 7170 the commands in your case would be:

quote SETENV HWRevision 127
quote SETENV annex A
quote SETENV kernel_args annex=A
quote SETENV firmware_version avme
bye

Do NOT (!!) reboot your Fritzbox, instead do a "Recover" with the firmware you want (in your case I would say it's the english Annex A firmware) FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7170.AnnexA.en.04.78.recover-image.exe immediately.

Hi,
Thanks, but I have annex b on german and want to have annex b (yes, b) on english.
How to make it happen.....
