Think my fritz 7170 is dead :(

I think I have a problem with my fritzbox 7170
I was fideling around with it try to convert it to annex a
now I can not telnet to it or even put a recovery image back to it
I was woundering if it would be possible for any of to give me a bit of a hand
whith this.
this is what i get when I try to use a recovery image

I did play around with the ftp comandes like

Any help would be good even if it remains an annex b

try this:
When your computer reports that is is 29.04.01 update it with the attachment as if it were firmware

Then reboot [will probably happen anyway]
It should [hopefully] be Annex A FW 29.04.01 now
If it is then update to 29.04.40 or, as I did to 29.04.44-9163 [which can be found at www.avm.de in the Labor section

Only problem is that I can not get on to web or telnet I can only get
to the router via ftp.
Is there any way I can do this via ftp ?

Hi Flashink,

acutally, what did you try to do? It's a 7170 with firmware versions 29.x.x, so you can't make it a normal Fritz Box Fon WLAN with firmware versions 08.x.x.
There is no english firmware image nor an english recover tool for 7170. So you will have to keep the web interface in german.
The only thing you can do is to make it annex A. You will have to live with german web interface. It seems that there will be an english firmware image file for 7170 once. But til now there isn't.

To get your 7170 back working try the following commands:

quote SETENV annex,B
quote SETENV HWRevision,94.1.1.0                   (<--- Not sure about this one. But that's what my 7170 says.)
quote SETENV ProductID,Fritz_Box_7170
quote SETENV firmware_version,avm
quote SETENV firmware_info,29.04.01

Then try the german recover tool (firmware version 29.04.01 hopefully?) again. It should work then.

If your box is running again, you can make the annex A conversion as described by fritsv. But don't change any attributes in ftp environment. That doesn't help you at all.

No this does not go thru Telnet or FTP
Try and reset your 7170 by telephone
Just enter: #991*15901590* and see if this will reset the box enough.

thanx to the 3 of you nice to get such quick responses in so little time
now I´ll just wait for firmware version 29.04.01
then try once again to convert it to annex A which is what we use here in portugal mostly and what I have at home and at the office thanks once again.

Yes, that's the correct way.

No need for that.

In web interface it will state being "Annex A". Might be that in adam2 environment or via telnet it will say differently. But that's not important. There are some old environment variables which aren't used any more. Just ignore them. The information in web interface is the important point.

here is what happens when I recover to 29.04.01 recovery
I lose web interface and then can not put the fritz_as_avm_annex_a_kernel_args.tar in the firmware page

First off all give us the number of your box which is on the back saying something like partnumber 2000 xxxx
Then tell us, before you lost your webinterface, what did the box stat in DSL-info [FW version]
What, if anything, did the box tell you when you recovered with 29.04.01-recovery
And, last but not least, did you recover according to the rules AVM set for this ?

ok the number on the box is 2000-2388
i dont know what the DSL-info [FW version] was
I know when I first had the box it was an english web interface
the way I downgraded to was in a win xp pc I ran the recover the pc rebooted then it did the downgrade.
As for the avm rules to be honest I dont know what they are
if it is importent I can upgrade the fritz again and get you the DSL-info [FW version].

and when I upgrade to 29.04.01-recovery this is the log

This all seems quit allright to me; the recovery seems to be successfull

Was your Firewall deactivated while recovering ?
Did you play the recovery whilst connected by LAN-cable to LAN1 on the box ?
Have you tried connecting to the box thru your webbrowser by direct IP-address [f.i. 192.168.178.1 or .2 or .3 or the new 169.254.1.1] rather then http://fritz.box
Is the LAN-adaptor in your PC on a fixed IP-address or DHCP-supplied ?

yup I have checked and double checked the settings an firewall etc all seem ok but the result seems the same I have 2 more fritz 7170 in the office I might open one more and try from zero see how it go´s
If i remember corectlly i did get to see annex a in the dsl settings befor I played aroud with the ftp and the telnet
anyway if I did get any of the other 2 going in annex a would there be an easy way to clone what I did ?
