Stick N linux driver request & AVM Ticket Reply

I've got a Frtiz!Stick N running with ndiswrapper in ubuntu 7.10 on my laptop and connected to my 7270. The reported connect speed (wlan display in 7270) is somewhere between 185 and 280 Mb/s.

I also have a mini-server (VIA PX10000G) running gentoo Q1-2008 w/ hardware aes active in openssl connected to a lan port on the 7270.

While copying a 20MB file using scp to the server my laptop freezes No mouse, no console switching, no nothing. Only the power button helps.

wire-to-wire works no probs only air-to-wire has the problem. copying large files using firefox dsl-to-air works too.

Has anyone else had this problem. Or could someone help me solve this?

Updated to 54.04.56-10570... My wlan stick seems to loose the connection. While surfing with firefox a given transfer will be completed. I must reconnect to 7270 in order to continue. And happens very frequently: every 10-15 minutes or so...

Under xp I have no problems with the same stick driver.

Does anyone have any intellegent advice?

Stick N & AVM Ticket Reply

I opened a ticket at AVM requesting a linux driver for the N stick and they replied with:

Zur Zeit gibt es leider keinen unter Linux funktionierenden Treiber für den
FRITZ!WLAN USB N Stick, ob und ggf. wann mit einer
Linux-Treiberunterstüzung zu rechnen ist, kann ich leider nicht mitteilen.

Is that a standard answer for linux drivers from AVM?
Are they always so forthcoming with release dates?
Or does that mean they're really not planning a linux driver?

This means that just now there's no driver and no release plan or even date for a linux driver.

After upgrading to Ubuntu 8.04 copying large files (>100MB) with Stick N and scp seems be working.

I'll post problems when they're encountered...
