Any difference between the German 7270 & the 1&1 Homeserver+ models on ebay?

Be careful. There are different hardware versions on the market:
- 7270.v1 (8 MB flash): Not recommended for you (no english GUI)
- 7270.v2 (16 MB flash): The best choice for you. It's easy to install multilanguage & multiannex
- 7270.v3 (16 MB flash): Completely different hardware but same functions. Not so easy to switch language and annex

To answer your question: FritzBox is red coloured, Homeserver+ is black. There are no differences in the hardware. Prices continue to be high (around 140.- EUR)

Thanks el_valiente, so I should go for FB (red) or Homeserver+(black) 7270.v2 Annex B (2000 2403) & I will have no problems using it here in Finland after uploading the English fw? I cant get it around 140EUR anywhere... can you recommend an internet shop???

That's right. But to upload the english fw you must login via ftp to the box and change some environment parameters.
Or alternatively you may use ruKernelTool from skyteddy.
To my opinion, there are no major difficulties to do the mods, but some users do not agree ...

Look for a 7270.v2 in the largest and best known internet market. You will find a lot of offers. Prices start from 120.- EUR. But these are used items, of course! And the version (v1, v2 or v3) is seldom specified.
Perhaps it would be better for you to ask for a 7270.v2 in the "flea market" (Flohmarkt) here in the forum. Price will be around 140.- EUR, too.

It is one of hundreds of similar offers. It seems to be v2. But it comes with the german fw (AnnexB, only german language). And it costs a little to much.
I suggest to not buy the first offer you see. There are plenty of them. Observe and analyse the market some days and take the best one, than.

I use the 7270 International Edition on Annex A in the UK. I believe that it does have all the features (including English language firmware) that you require. I use remote access to a hard drive on the USB port by ftp and there are instructions for setting up a VPN although I have not done that. The current English language firmware is 54.04.76 which works well, although it is dissappointing that updates are available for the German version first.

Please tell me if the answering machine works correctly in the english version (it does not in a FB 7240 using a patched FW 54.04.76.en-de-it-es-fr)

Yes. We use both the answering maching and fax to email. I have been using the 7270 for about a year and have had no problems. The answering maching saves the message and send it to us by email. The voice messages and faxes are stored on the hard drive attached to the Fritz box and can be accessed there but I have not needed to do this.

Sadly, the answering machine does not (yet) work in my FB 7240 patched to 54.04.76 international.
It only works if the german language is selected.

My friends FB made a small explosion when I was about the plug it yesterday. Do you have any idea if it is still usable? When I plug it with my own adapter, no light come on it

I am sorry, but if the AC adapter works correctly and no LED lights on at the FB, than forget it.

Your friend may contact avm - could be that avm replaces the FB.

ok the FB 7050 is so old so avm maybe wont replace it. I can buy a new one and try to convert it to Annex A for him
