Hello,

Being a none german native, I am requesting your help in english.

A german colleague send me his unused FBF 7170 v2, labeled from 1und1.
All cables and adapter are "lost".

I do have a PSTN line (analog) at home. As I already have a working FBF 7050 Annex A, I use a master PSTN splitter from which 2 RJ45 cables goes to the back of FBF7050 DSL and Tel connectors.

I found here the layout of the Y-shaped cable for the FBF7170. So, I made my own cable.
So from my PSTN master splitter, the telefon outputs cable goes to the pins 3 and 6 of the back DSL/Tel connector of the FBF7170.
Then the modem output of the PSTN master splitter goes to the pins 4 and 5 of the back DSL/Tel connector of the FBF7170.

The telephon works fine, I can use it to call and get it ring when someone calls me.
But my ADSL connection is not working. I have properly configured my ADSL settings.(userid and password)
The log indicates DSL "training". I noticed on the statistic menu that there is no signal.

I thought that the FBF7170 from 1und1 was able to work as an ADSL modem for PSTN and ISDN line.

I would appreciate any help.

Hello and welcome to the forum,

did you modify your box to work on Annex A? On the "DSL-Information"-page, which Annex version do you read there?

Woow, that was fast. Thx.

No, I did not modify it yet as i was not sure. I just updated it with the last firmware from AVM.

I don't have the box with me, at work for the moment, but i am 80% sure that there is no indication of any Annex.

I read somewhere that some files could be put in the box using telnet. In the first post of this section, I believe.

Is there a full procedure that even a monkey could do ?

I don't have DSL, but I am quite sure, that somewhere there is a page where the Annex version is mentioned. All 7170 are originally Annex B, so you will have to modify yours to an Annex A version.

An up-to-date how-to is this one:
http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showpost.php?p=865051&postcount=827
In short terms it is just one statement which you have to enter in telnet. So activate telnet with the telephone code, telnet on your box and enter this statement. If the first one does not work, try the second one. Don't forget to reboot to commit it.
(Best practice is not to type the statement manually but to do copy-paste.)

Well, that tells how to change the branding, not how to change annex...

bye, Jojo

Sorry, my fault. Don't know why I messed that up!?

The method though would probably be very similar, as the same file(s) also hold the information about the annex.

Bye, Jojo

I think so, too. But at the moment I can't find the correct link where to find information about this topic.

the thread is Annex A 7170,7140, xx70,5010,5012 [tkx to HaveANiceDay]
and to my knowledge only works with FW 29.04.01

Using:
fritz_as_avm_annex_a_kernel_args.tar and fritz_del_annex_a_kernel_args.tar
They work without creation of your own image !
Just upload the file as "firmware".

Frits

Did you try this how-to? It's for 7050 with 14.04.33, another box running new kernel 2.6 firmware.

Translation:
  1. Activate telnet via telephone code #96*7*
  2. Connect to box (windows command: telnet 192.168.178.1)
  3. Enter the following commands:
    Code:
    echo "kernel_args annex=A" > /proc/sys/urlader/environment
    reboot

That should be all. Does it work?
