Convert FB 7270 v3 German Annex B -> Annex A {English?}

Hello there,

I just bought a FB from ebay and I noticed that it is having v3 after I bought it. I was sincerely looking for v2 but unfortunately got this v3

So I would need some help... please can anyone here give step by step guide on how to convert/Patch this FB to Annex A so that I can use it here in Finland. If possible also in English.

Sorry for you, but: this happened because you did not follow experienced advise from "el_valiente": Buy a v2 in the FLOHMARKT of this forum!

To switch a v2 from "German-B" to "International-A" is as easy as to simply upload two files you can find and download in this forum - after uploading them the box would not only dispose of Annex-A-Sync but you could even choose between 5 languages - English off course being one of them.

Now your mess is quite considerable and of course there are ways out - but I do not feel from all your comments I read that you will be able to do it. I apologize for my harsh words - but sometimes they are unavoidable.

I think you should know why I ended up with the v3. I didnt just choose it for myself or because I like it. I saw the item was 16mb so I thought it could be v2. I asked the seller then made a bid so I went to sleep. Seller replied when the bidding ended with the information that it is v3.

I would appreciate if you can be of help still... I listened to el_valiente but the purchase of v3 was a mistake.

@bjluv: I just found out that v3 contains driver for Annex A as well as for Annex B. This means it is easily possible to bring a v3 to run in your Annex-A-network - but in German! To get the box "speak" English is another and rather difficult story.

Can't help you with the language issue, but thanks I certainly can help you switch from the German ISDN-only ADSL mode to the International POTS (Plain Old Telephone System) mode (I use my 7270 in Bangalore, India). Here's how:

1. Make sure that you are IP connected to the box (i.e. http://fritz.box works)

2. Open a telnet client on your PC and telnet to fritzbox (i.e. telnet fritz.box)

3. Login with your fritzbox admin password. You should land up at the # prompt.

Now run these commands (without the # prompt, of course):

# echo "kernel_args annex=A" > /proc/sys/urlader/environment

# reboot

If all goes well (it should), you will now have a German 7270 that can talk to non-ISDN POTS networks, and you should be able to connect to the non-ISDN DSL network.

Note two things:

1. The Admin UI will now have a line saying that you are using an unsupported modified firmware and that AVM can't support you (that's OK)

2. If you need to update your firmwire, you need to revert to the old setting, update, then re-run the procedure.

I expect to see a V3 English/international firmware update sometime in the future, which will make things easier.

Too bad... I have just agreed to cancel the transaction with the seller. Now I am searching for FB 7270 v2 again on ebay and all the sellers I have asked does not even know how to tell or check if their FBs are v2 or v3

Why don't you simply ask for a v2 in Flohmarkt of this forum offering 120 Euro plus mail expenses? V2 is the far better choice for you!
