Please excuse this post in English,

I am new to Berlin and my German is terrible. I have O2 DSL and have noticed that it is VOIP - Is it possible to me to set up one of my 4 numbers on my handy (Android, Nexus one) using a SIPdroid or other client?

I have been playing with settings, but I keep getting the error unauthorized access. Is the SIP server access locked to an IP address (so I'd have to run a home proxy server), or am I able to access the O2 Voip features from another connection?

Hi Teebs,
welcome to the forum. Posts in English are generally no problem.
If you use the Fritz!Box that's offered by o2, you can simply install Fritz!App Fon to your Nexus one. It will do all the configuration necessary.

If not, here's the main configuration data you can use for SIPdroid:
Number is 49[city prefix without leading 0][local number]
The username has to be requested from o2 Service Hotline, 0179-55222.
The same goes for the password.
Registrar is sip.o2online.de

Welcome in Germany! Here is a answer in terrible english :
the answer is NO!
I assume you want to call via O2VoIP over UMTS - that is not possible, because the SIP functions depends from the connection to Telefonica(O2)-broadband.
If you like to connect via O2-WLAN - theoretical feasible, but I never heard about a mobile SIP-client, which is able to work with O2-VoIP. The solution is possibly to call-through from O2 to Sipgate/Skype and to receive calls on your phone if you have a UMTS-flat. To call out via O2-VoIP while abroad is not possible - so far as I know

Hi VoIP-Seufz,
yes, you are right - as long as you want to connect to o2 VoIP services from anywhere, this won't work.
If you try to connect to them from within your own (W)LAN, this *should* work. I've not tried though, because I use AVM's Fritz!Fon App and connect that to my Fritz!Box.
