Getting current Fritz!Box image from device?

OK. Thank you all for helping me. I have copied all the partitions and we will see what happens. In worst case I'll need to go back to original firmware and try with Freetz as long as I finally get the right new image :) Thanks again! Marcin

Getting current Fritz!Box image from device?

    The firmware is 73.04.80freetz-1.1-stable, which was then converted from German to English with Speed To Fritz. The output of partitions is as follows: 31 0 14833 mtdblock0 31 1 910 mtdblock1 31 2 128 mtdblock2 31 3 256 mtdblock3 31...

Getting current Fritz!Box image from device?

I tried copying all /dev/mtdblock files and I think first 2 were 128kB, next 2 were 256kB and the later mtdblocks it was claiming that device does not exist. I will try with partitions in the evening - I don't have access to the box now.

Getting current Fritz!Box image from device?

Seems I wasn't successful with any of the approaches. When I do cat /dev/mtdblock2 > ... I get just 128kB in result file, which is on my USB hard drive. I also tried dd instead of cat, but the result was exactly the same. Then with the procedure with FTP I get "command not implemented"...

Thank you for the links. I don't know German enough to read such text, but Google Translate usually is enough to get the idea. Thank you!

Getting current Fritz!Box image from device?

Hi, I have Fritz!Box 7240 with modified firmware. I currently need to create a new image but I wanted to be able to switch back to current one in case something goes wrong. Unfortunately I've lost the current image so the only copy is running on the router. Is there any way of getting the...

    Where is rsync?

I didn't happen again to have such memory consumption again. I backed up another computer (37G) and it did not cause any reboot, there was though a single connection broken. But then again with the first computer I had the Fritz reboot during rsync of 5 files, but it happend of first file with...

    Where is rsync?

That was initial copy. Now the updates will be much, much smaller. 100G is quite a lot, but as long as it goes to external drive I think it should be just a matter of how long it takes. Obviously unless rsync is keeping history about files already received. But I also wonder why the whole box...

    Where is rsync?

The article shows using trickle on client side, which would result only in reduced bandwith. Should I then wrap rsync daemon on Fritz with trickle? I will try this evening. Just curiosity - how can it help in this?

    Where is rsync?

A bit of a status. With larger transfers (eg. initial backup) with rsync, Fritz is rebooting. I had 3 or 4 reboots to transfer less than 100GB. In top it looks like the memory consumption for rsync process is growing during transfer and it is not going down when transfer is done. But I'm not...

    Where is rsync?

The LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable allows to provide additional directories where shared libraries are storred. If you put variable assignment together with executing a program, the variable will be changed only in environment for this program. In this way you are not intrusive. I assumed you have...

    Where is rsync?

The step 4. can be automated with rc.custom (or debug.cfg?).

    Where is rsync?

For those who would be interesed I've made rsync run on freetz 1.1. This is what I did: 1. Compile Freetz from trunk with rsync selected. 2. Copy build/modified/filesystem/usr/bin/rsync and all files from build/modified/filesystem/usr/lib/freetz (maintain links) to disk attached to Fritz 3...

    Where is rsync?

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I think I meet all the criteria. Recovering is not something I'm affraid of, but rather that internet or phone stops working when I'm out of home. Believe me - my wife wouldn't be happy about it. Actually I'm a software developer and Linux was my primary...

Any ideas when Freetz 1.2 would be available? Is trunk version stable enough to use it?

    Where is rsync?

Hi, I'm sorry for using English here, but I don't speak German. I would like to add rsync to my Freetz image for 7240. But unfortunately I cannot find it in menuconfig, while it is listed on http://trac.freetz.org/wiki/packages . I have checked Freetz 1.1.2 and stable-1.1. Can anyone tell how...
