WDS with AVM 7270 and any primary router?

Hi

I understand that WDS is essentially using the wireless card as both a client and a server at the same time.

can you use WDS against any primary router or do BOTH ends have to be set up to use it? i am shortly to be in an environment where i will need to use my 7270 as router etc locally but where the modem connected to adsl is quite a long way away. the modem is wifi enabled so i was hoping that I could use the 7270 in repeater mode to connect to the modem and my wireless clients at the same time. this is not strictly necessary, it would be acceptable for the 7270 to be purely in client mode too (as it's the router/ata functions that are important).

WDS works only with another FB. Otherwise you'll have to use the AP settings like with any other client.

but i don't understand the quote. are you saying that you _can_ configure the FB to act as a wireless client as well as a wireless access point? that would be great.

FB work only as master; the only exceptions are

1. WDS, where he FB can be configured as slave, and
2. access over LAN, where there is an Ethernet port to connect via LAN1.

Generally the other Router has to support WDS-/Repeater-Mode if you want to setup a WDS-Network with a Fritz!Box. Here you can find tested combinations:

The FBs cannot act as a Wireless Client. And more important: The current firmware of the 7270 does not support WDS yet. The menu is already there (hidden), but it's not working. WDS will probably be implemented in one of the following firmware updates.
