Repeater for a Fritzbox 7050

Hi

Apologies for using English and probably asking a question that has already been asked here before in German. I have a fritzbox 7050 1&1 and I want to extend the range of the wireless. I am using TKIP WPA encryption and need a stronger signal to cover the entire house properly.

Can anyone recommend a Wireless repeater that I could use preferably with english firmware? Can I buy any old make e.g belkin, dlink etc?

I am not sure what WDS is how that applies.

I want the fritzbox to remain as the base station.

Buying another 7050 might be the easiest solution for a WDS for the 7050, and probably even the cheapest - in time and money. At the moment and being out of marketing they can be bought for around ¤ 30,- at certain, well known auction shops.

It seems that the 7050 has a "weak" WLAN-signal.
There is a thread in the forum about replacing the antenna of the 7050 with a 5dB one. If that is enough in your particular case is something i cannot fathom from here

Edit: WDS is using a repeater much as you described, in which case you can use the 7050 as a base or use f.i. a 7170 as the base [which has a stronger signal] and your existing 7050 as the repeater

Thanks for the suggestions. I now know why I have seen so many pigtail kits on auction site I think I will probably try this.

Then in the future buy a 7170 once it can be converted to english and annex A. Then I will use my 7050 as a repeater if necessary.

The international version of the 7170 is [and has been for about 2 weeks] available on the British market. Is has an English interface and is Annex A
