I have tried both english and german recover images from avm.de, however none of them work. Box was originally german version (no annex), it died after trying to patch to english.

Code:
FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN suchen an: 192.168.178.2

You have to take the firmware for your fritzbox. Each typ of Fritzbox have his own firmware. When you look at the version-number of firmware: your box has a 10.xx.xx , the recover-version ist a 08.xx.xx.
Recover firmware must be also an 10.xx.xx

What did you do to patch the box? Both outputs show a firmware version starting 10.xx.yy belonging to a FritzBox SL, not to a FritzBox Fon WLAN. It looks like you did mess up something while patching. Recover won't work because of this firmware versioning.
But don't attempt to use a recover version not belonging to this box, for example the one of FritzBox SL! This will mess up even more. (If it works. I suppose it won't work because of hardware-revision 61 belonging to another FritzBox.)
Box was originally german version (no annex)
What do you mean by "no annex"?

This english patching wasn't applied by me, so I guess it could be really messed up..

The box is neither Annex A nor B; this box has no annex if I can say so... (I checked the other side of fritz!box)

Any way to force recovery to work?

There is only one FritzBox which doesn't have a DSL-modem and that's FritzBox Fon ATA. Neither hardware revision nor firmware version seems to belong to a FritzBox Fon ATA. Every other FritzBox does have a DSL-modem built-in. And every DSL-modem is either Annex A or B.

At first you should be absolutely sure about which FritzBox you do have there. Than you will have to correct parameters (I suppose its firmware major version which will have to be set from 10 to 8) via ftp (adam2).
But again, first you should be absolutely sure about which FritzBox you do have.

There are also messages around that firmware updates may cause the annex entry to "vanish". That will also lead to the message, that the firmware in not the right one (and it can be solved, see here even in FTP environement with
Code:
echo "annex B" > /proc/sys/urlader/environment
depending on the annex you need.)
In your case, there also seems to be a branding problem, because "avme" is not supported by your recover...

But the first thing is to be really sure about your box, because there seems to be a bit of confusion as allready stated by the other posters (the HWRevison 61 should use a firmware 08.xx.yy).
Can you please provide the exact version as provided on the sticker of the box? Then it should be possible to find the correct way to your settings and the correct recover/firmware version suitable for your box.

Hi,

O.k., so the HWRevision 61 is correct and a 08.xx.yy recover should work.

If I look at your first Post, the recover with 08.04.15 should be o.k., but the oem/branding is incorrect. So you will have to change the branding if you want to use this recover:
You should ftp to your box, and then change the branding to avm, I would also advise you to change/set the annex to B just to be shure the recover works:
Code:
quote SETENV annex,B
quote SETENV firmware_version,avm
After this, the recover should be possible, at least should go further to the next "Problem", which can be addressed then.

As an alternative you might try the annex A recover from here as far as I know, this should even use the avme-Branding...

Good luck!

Joerg

EDIT: If you want to try the english recover, you just have to change the settings according to the errors you get (as seen with the branding).
All in all it is allways a good start to save your envoronement settings (e.g. holding the MAC adresses) in the ftp session with a
Code:
! cat env

You will have to change firmware info, too:
Code:
quote SETENV firmware_info,08.04.26

I searched the forums, but still no luck - how to ftp to the box? I tried using run-> cmd -> ftp 192.168.178.1 , but received 'unknown error number' :( an ftp client also didn't work...

btw, box isn't completely dead, just when I write 192.168.178.1 in a web browser I get "The specified site could not be found. Redirecting to the FRITZ!Box home page." then it redirects and shows the same, then redirects again and again... maybe it can be fixed without recovery tool?

First: The ftp server is only reachable for some seconds after the box is started. So you have to be quick to use ftp ;-)

A second thing you might try is to reach the box by telnet:
You will have to activate it by dialing the code #96*7*. If you can then reach the box with telnet, you are able to look and change settings directly.

It might just be the branding and the Version don't mach and therefore the box won't find the correct webpages...

For telnet and adam2 (=ftp) you have to use different commands. The commands above are for adam2.

  1. Assign your PC a fixed IP, for example 192.168.178.2 (must be this subnet).
  2. Connect your PC to the LAN port of your FritzBox with a short straight LAN cable.
  3. Open a command prompt (Start -> run -> cmd).
  4. Enter "ftp 192.168.178.1" without pressing return button.
  5. Power on the FritzBox.
  6. Directly after that press return in the command prompt. (If it doesn't work at once, try several times to reboot box and directly afterwards send ftp command.)
  7. When asked for user name and password enter adam2 for both of them.
  8. Enter the following commands:
    Code:
    debug
    bin
    quote MEDIA FLSH
    quote SETENV annex,B
    quote SETENV firmware_version,avm
    quote SETENV firmware_info,08.04.26
    quote REBOOT
  9. Your FritzBox should reboot now.
  10. Try recover version 08.04.15 german Annex B.
    ftp://ftp.avm.de/fritz.box/fritzbox.fon_wlan/x_misc/deutsch
If you want to modify your box to Annex A or english web-interface, just try "avme" as branding (firmware_version) instead of "avm" and change annex setting command. Then you will have to use a different recover version.

Good luck! :D

Today, I killed my FB the same way, but was able to resurrect it thanks to Marsupilami's how-to!

Just one more hint:

Using Windows to recover the FB isn't the greatest of all ideas, because it takes the TCP/IP driver too long to re-connect the interface once the FB is powered on. By the time Windows accepts the interface to be connected the 'urlader' sequence of the FB has timed out.

Therefore, you eigther use a proper OS, or you disable Media Sensing on Windows:

  1. Start Registry Editor.
  2. Locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
  3. Add the following registry entry to the Parameters subkey:
    Name: DisableDHCPMediaSense
    Data type: REG_DWORD (Boolean)
    Value: 1
  4. Restart your computer.
See also: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239924

Another way is to start the recovery of any invalid firmware version (e.g. you have 29.04.xx on your FB, try recovery of 58.04.xx). Surely, the recovery will fail, but DO NOT REBOOT THE FB afterwards, because it still is in 'urlader' mode and can easily be connected using any FTP program without any haste.

Once more, CHEERS TO MARSUPILAMI !!! :rosen:
